ICC Food Service Pathway class to start May 10 at Belden Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning May 10. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through June 8. ICC's Salinas selected as one of only two recipients of TVA Scholarship Itawamba Community College sophomore Diana Salinas of Golden has been recognized as a 2021 Tennessee Valley Authority Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. The selection was based on the score earned in Phi Theta Kappa’s Fall Scholarship competition, and Salinas is one of only two students selected for the award. The scholarship is designed to provide Mississippi Phi Theta Kappa members majoring in a STEM-related field with financial resources to help defray educational expenses while enrolled at a four-year college pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The students were selected based on academic, achievement, leadership, campus and community service and faculty assessments. Salinas is majoring in computer science at ICC, where she is vice president of the Student Government Association, president of the Computer Science Club, Diamond Girl, member of the Honors College and vice president of leadership and regional reporter for Phi Theta Kappa. ICC, Get2College to offer FAFSA assistance at Apr. 26 drive-thru event Students and parents who need assistance with completion of the FAFSA form have an opportunity during a drive-thru event at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus, Apr. 26, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. in the parking lot beside the Academic and Student Center. Representatives from Get2College and ICC’s Financial Aid office will be available to assist with filing the FAFSA, State Aid application, ICC scholarships and county aid for 2021-22, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. “The event will be primarily to assist students and parents who, due to COVID-19, may not yet be comfortable with coming into the office,” Bland said. Tents will be set up to provide a safe, socially distanced environment. “Even if you do not think you are eligible for a Pell grant, you should still file your FAFSA in order to be considered for emergency funding, which is available from the U.S. Department of Education,” he noted. ICC to award degrees, certificates during four in-person ceremonies Approximately 650 Itawamba Community College graduates will receive associate’s degrees or certificates in four in-person ceremonies, May 13 and 14, at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus. The ceremonies include May 13 – 10 a.m., Associate of Arts (A-L) and 2 p.m., Associate of Arts (M-Z); and May 14 – Associate of Applied Science (career education), 10 a.m. and Associate of Applied Science (health science), 2 p.m. The A.A.S. ceremonies will also include those who earned certificates. In addition, a high school equivalency ceremony will be at 6 p.m., May 13. Since COVID-19 prevented an in-person ceremony last year, both 2020 and 2021 graduates have been invited to participate.
