Registration underway for ICC Summer Band Camp

            Registration is under way for the 2021 Itawamba Community College Summer Band Camp, which will be June 20-25.             The camp is designed for those interested in furthering their music education, strengthening their leadership skills and creating lifelong friendships, according to director Ryan Todd. Since 1981, the camp has hosted more than 16,000 students from all over the United States. It is regarded as one of the finest summer band camps in the Mid-South.             Instruction includes general courses for all campers, drum majors, color guard and percussion.             The registration deadline is May 15.             For more information, call (662) 862-8406 or email bandcamp@iccms.edu.

Harris comes to ICC and finds home

Brewer native John Wayne Harris, director of Projects and Energy Management Systems, came to Itawamba Community College as a freshman in the fall of 2006, and he never left.             The son of Nannette and Joe Harris, he had just graduated from Shannon High School in the spring.             During the first few days of his freshman year, he said he jumped feet first into running the sound for CenterStage for its fall concert and “turned around and did the same thing for the dinner theatre, all the while going to class and being a part of the All-American Marching Band.”             And somehow he just knew he wanted to earn his degree and start his career at ICC.             Through running the sound for CenterStage, he began working with Terry McCarthy, former technical events coordinator, on activities that were scheduled for the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. That led him to being a student worker for (Coach) Carrie Ball-Williamson, athletic director. ICC Films to host screening, Apr. 6

ICC Films will host a film screening, A NIGHT WITH RISING STARS, Apr. 6, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the Fulton Campus.             The doors will open at 6 p.m. for students to walk the red carpet and have their pictures made (optional). Dress can be formal or casual.             The screening of the two films will begin at 7 p.m. “Ruby,” which was written by Jade Keaton of Tupelo and directed by Charlie Wright of Pontotoc, stars Annaka Langley of Houston and Ashlyn Holcomb of Fulton. “Mississippi Minute” stars Ryan Perich of Saltillo and Patrick Gallagher (Los Angeles, Calif.) from “Night at the Museum.”             The event is free to the public, and concessions will be available for purchase. 2021 ICC Most Beautiful Pageant set for Apr. 22

            Approximately 40 contestants will compete for the title of Itawamba Community College’s Most Beautiful 2021, Apr. 22, at 7 p.m. at the W.O. eLearning second four-week class registration continues

Food Service Pathway class to begin Mar. 29 at ICC-Belden

             Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Mar. 29.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Apr. 23.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. ICC art students bring home state awards

Itawamba Community College art students brought home four awards in this year’s Mississippi Community College State Art Competition hosted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Gautier. Winners included Camille Campbell of Tupelo, third place and a $50 cash award in the category of Painting for her acrylic painting titled ‘Woman’s Portrait;’ Laken Templeton of Pontotoc, first place and a $100 cash award in Digital Art for her Adobe Illustrator rendering of Michelangelo’s ‘David’ titled ‘Apprehension’ and second place and $75 cash award in 3D-Design for her hand-sewn recreation of ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, a 17th century masterpiece by the Dutch painter Frans Hals; and Mov Etheridge of Baldwyn, honorable mention in 3D-Design for her sculpture ‘Chinese Guitar.’ Other participating ICC art students include Harleigh Roberts of Baldwyn; Raymond Everett of Blue Springs; Jacob Brees of Hernando; Maleigh Collier of Nettleton; Anna Maclaine Griffith, Marlee Schaefer, both of Pontotoc; Katie Pilgrim and Josie Kate Reeves, both of Tupelo. ICC sets auditions for 2021-22 All-American Band

Auditions for the 2021-22 Itawamba Community College All-American Band have been scheduled for 9 a.m., Apr. 17, at the Fulton Campus.             They include Color Guard, Drum Major and Indianettes. MHC to honor ICC's Ward, Stevenson, Mar. 26

Itawamba Community College’s Nathan Ward of Mooreville and Jessi Stevenson of Fulton will be among statewide recipients of Mississippi Humanities Teacher Awards, which will be presented virtually, Mar. 26 at 7 p.m. Ward, who is the 2021 recipient, has been an English instructor at ICC since 2007. Stevenson, the 2020 recipient, has been employed with ICC since 2006 and is currently instructor of Fine Arts. The awards will be presented virtually and will stream over the Mississippi Humanities Council’s Facebook and YouTube channels. The Humanities Teacher Awards pay tribute to outstanding faculty in traditional humanities fields at each of Mississippi’s institutions of higher learning. Although 2020-21 came with its own new set of challenges, humanities faculty at Mississippi’s colleges and universities continue to engage in significant work in their classrooms (or home offices), nurturing students’ capacity to think critically and creatively, to evaluate points of view, synthesize information and weigh evidence. Each recipient prepares and delivers a public lecture on a humanities subject prior to the awards celebration. Perfect score leads ICC's Salinas to NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars summer program

            Itawamba Community College sophomore Diana Salinas of Golden has been selected into the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Community College Aerospace Scholars summer program. Salinas was chosen as one of the top performing students in a NASA-sponsored five-week online course, which was a prerequisite for her prestigious selection. She earned a perfect score on the program where she designed a robot to collect samples on the Moon. Salinas will receive a $550 stipend from NASA for completing the summer program, which will be virtual due to COVID. “It has been a great experience to be able to participate in this course,” Salinas said. “I learned many new skills and was able to interact with some amazing NASA speakers. If you are interested in space or NASA, I highly recommend this course to others.” The virtual NCAS will include an interactive team competition to plan a mission to the Moon or Mars; NASA mentors assigned to each team; speakers from NASA’s diverse workforce; virtual behind-the-scenes tours of multiple NASA centers; individualized résumé feedback from NASA mentors and ...
