ICC to present "Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play," with public tickets available Feb. 25-27

Itawamba Community College will present “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play” by Joe Landry, Feb. 25-27 at 7 p.m. at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the Fulton Campus.             Due to COVID-19 restrictions, seating is limited and socially distanced.             Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc., the unique 1940s era show will feature live Foley sound effects and three Hitchcock favorites: “The Lodger,” “Sabotage” and “The 39 Steps.”             Members of the cast and crew include Adam Whitten of Fulton; Tony (Matt) Savell of Philadelphia; Zion Cooper and Gabrielle Cooper, both of Russellville, Ala.; Isaac Floyd of Tupelo; and Trinity Eacholes of West Point.             Admission is $8, and tickets are available at www.iccms.edu/VintageHitchcock!  

ICC Pathway programs set to begin in March

            Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in March.             They include Commercial Truck Driving, Food Service Pathway, Small Engine Repair and Introduction to Welding and Cutting.             Commercial Truck Driving begins Mar. 29 and meets Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. The program prepares individuals to drive Class A semi trucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records.             The Food Service Pathway class will begin Mar. 22 and meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Belden Center. The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front and back of the house operations. Alum Bishop Alexander to speak at ICC's Unity programs at Fulton, Tupelo

          Itawamba Community College alumnus Bishop Alexander, who is the director of Alumni Relations at the University of North Alabama, will be the featured speaker for Unity programs in Celebration of Black History Month, Feb. 24, at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses.             The Tupelo Campus program is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Dining Hall of the Academic and Student Center, and the Fulton Campus program, 6 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. Due to COVID-19 restrictions on seating, the general public is invited to participate via ZOOM. Registration continues for ICC Gateway program

Registration is continuing for the Gateway program at Itawamba Community College.             The program is designed for individuals who are between the ages of 16-24, do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent, want career coaching and are serious about exploring employment opportunities. In addition, those who have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma may qualify if they have another type of barrier, including but not limited to, single parent, low income, disabilities and homeless. Enrollments are currently being accepted for participants in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties. Open enrollment for classes in the one-week program begins Mondays at 9 a.m. at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). ICC selects Orientation Leaders

Itawamba Community College has selected leaders for its 2021 freshman orientation sessions, which begin in April.             They include Makenzie Hamilton of Ecru; Grace Austin of Eupora; Addie Cobb of Hatley; Hannah Dean, Kiley Smith, both of Houston; Jacie Dickinson, John Curtis DeVaughn, both of Mantachie; Audrey Kate Wilson of New Hope; A’jalauh Caldwell of Pontotoc; Leah Pennington of Randolph; Haley Dean, Clare Roberson, Emma Cate Sparks, John Bryant Stanford, all of Saltillo; Kelan Traylor of Shannon; Carli Cole of Smithville; Jasmine Gilliard of Tremont; and Mackenzie Graham of Tupelo. Sponsors are Dr. Melissa Haab of Louisville and Jake Hartfield of Fulton.             They will lead small group activities, conduct campus tours and provide information to incoming freshmen during the orientation sessions.

ICC schedules three pathway programs to begin Mar. 2 at Belden Center

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for three pathway programs that are scheduled to begin Mar. 2. They include Small Engine Repair, Introduction to Welding and Cutting and Basics of Residential Wiring. Small Engine Repair will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Apr. 29. The 16-session program will prepare participants for a career as they develop small engine repair skills in basic maintenance, recoil systems, fuel systems, ignition systems/electrical circuits and disassembling and rebuilding small engines. Successful completion of the program entitles the participant to have an opportunity to obtain an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair business or to open his/her own shop. Successful completers will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification exam. The cost of the program is $369. Introduction to Welding and Cutting meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Apr. 8.  The class is designed to provide entry-level skills in welding and cutting and to prepare students to do the basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require. ...

ICC signs preferred candidate program agreement with MHP; only community college in the state selected

  Itawamba Community College signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Preferred Candidate Program with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Jan. 26, at the Tupelo Campus.             The initiative is a pilot program that will be implemented at ICC, the only community college in the state selected.             “Itawamba Community College is more than excited about this partnership with the Mississippi Highway Patrol,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “According to research, having successfully completed a college degree substantially improves the knowledge and abilities of officers on a vast range of areas from the criminal justice system to conceptual and managerial skills.”             The agreement will allow those who are enrolled to pursue either an A.A. or A.A.S. degree in ICC’s Criminal Justice program, meet with an MHP recruiter and apply for the MHP Preferred Candidate Program to skip weeks of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Academy.             In order to graduate from the MHP Preferred Candidate Program, students must complete one or more semesters of the MHP Candidates on Rapid Entry curriculum, earn the associate’s degree from ICC, meet the C.O.R.E. Spotlight: Lab Tech Margie Thomas assists with ICC COVID precautions

            Margie Thomas now spends her days testing for COVID-19 at the Fulton Campus, a key component of the effort ICC continues to make to keep its community safe.             But her career as a medical professional started 10 years ago when she completed a phlebotomy course at ICC.  Along the way, she’s also earned PBT American Society for Clinical Pathology certification and a medical transcriptionist certificate.             Her career has taken her to the North Mississippi Medical Center where she worked as a phlebotomist technician for six years and to the Magnolia Regional Health Center where she was a PT in the emergency room for two years.             In today’s pandemic world, Thomas is now filling a significant need at ICC, where she was employed as the COVID lab technician last October. She clocks in at 8 a.m., Monday through Friday, and then she checks her schedule to see how many appointments she has for the day because “someone could have gotten sick and needs to be tested quickly.” Then she checks to make sure she ...

ICC Board of Trustees elects officers for 2021

Steve Eaton of Houston has been elected chairman of the Itawamba Community College Board of Trustees for 2021.             Other officers include Gill Simmons of Tupelo, first vice chairman; Marilyn Sumerford of Smithville, second vice chairman; Steve Coleman of Pontotoc, secretary; and Stacy Russell of Fulton, immediate past chairman.             Also serving on ICC’s Board of Trustees are Amy Anderson, Dr. Jerome Smith, both of Okolona; Ollie Young of Houston; John Ellison of Woodland; Ronnie Gholston, Don Loden, both of Fulton; Mark Tigner of Mantachie; D.
