Apr. 1 deadline for application for health science programs

Apr. 1 is the deadline for the submission of applications for several health-related programs at Itawamba Community College.             They include associate degree nursing, health information technology, licensed practical nursing (August class), occupational therapy assistant technology, physical therapist assistant technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy technology and surgical technology, all at the Tupelo Campus.             For more information about program requirements, access ICC’s website at www.iccms.edu or call (662) 620-5239.

Food Service Pathway class set to begin Mar. 22 at ICC-Belden

Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Mar. 22.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Apr. 16.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.             For more information or to register, contact program director Christy Scheuer at acscheuer@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1505; or pathway coordinator Josh Gammill at jegammill@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1569.

Apr. 1 deadline to apply for Foundation scholarships

            Apr. 1 is the deadline for submission of online applications for scholarships offered by the Itawamba Community College Foundation, Inc.             A list of scholarships with complete descriptions and an online application are available on ICC’s website, www.iccms.edu, then click the Financial Aid tab and Scholarships at ICC under the Financial Aid links.             Foundation scholarships are established and privately funded for ICC students by individuals, businesses, industries and organizations.             For more information on the application process or scholarship endowment, contact Michael Upton at maupton@iccms.edu or (662) 862-8035 or foundation@iccms.edu.

ICC schedules orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll in summer, fall

Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2021 summer and fall semesters.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. and Apr. 23 and 30 and May 7 at 8:30 a.m., all at the Fulton Campus, and Apr. 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Additional dates are available in June and July. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Dr. Melissa Haab, dean of enrollment services. “The sessions will also provide an opportunity for adult learners to connect with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”             ICC orientation is mandatory for all graduating high school seniors. DeVaughn, Harris elected Mr. and Miss ICC

            John Curtis DeVaughn of Mantachie and Karli Rose Harris of Nettleton have been elected Mr. and Miss Itawamba Community College for 2020-21.             DeVaughn is a member of the leadership team for the Wesley Foundation, Baptist Student Union, Student Activities staff, Orientation Leader and Phi Theta Kappa. His honors include Hall of Fame and Dean’s List. His community and church activities are part-time speaker, Food Pantry volunteer, Vacation Bible School leader and Wednesday night teacher and basketball coach for the Mantachie Youth program. He is a secondary education major. His parents are Geoffrey and Angie DeVaughn.             The first Tupelo Campus student to be selected as Miss ICC, Harris is majoring in Occupational Therapy Assistant Technology at ICC. Her activities include community service chair of the Student Occupational Therapy Association, Indian Delegation (2019-20), Orientation Leader (2020), Homecoming Court freshman and sophomore maids and Monroe County Representative for the Student Government Association (2019-20). Six ICC sophomores named to All-Mississippi Academic Team

            Six Itawamba Community College sophomores have been named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team.             They include Kristen Howell, Diana Salinas, both of Golden; Anna Grace McKinney of Nettleton; Jason Brock of Pontotoc; Abby Rinehart, Reilly Grace Carter, both of Saltillo.             Howell is majoring in Computer Programming/Networking Technology. She is a member of the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa and the Computer Programming and Networking Association. Her honors include Hall of Fame and President’s List. She serves as a volunteer with her church with sound equipment and is a former member of 4-H. Her parents are Larry and Angie Howell.             Salinas is majoring in computer science at ICC, where she is vice president of the Student Government Association, president of the Computer Science Club, Diamond Girl, member of the Honors College and vice president of leadership and regional reporter for the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. 12 ICC sophomores selected to prestigious Hall of Fame

Twelve Itawamba Community College sophomores have been selected as members of the prestigious Hall of Fame for 2020-21.             They include and Cora Yielding of Fulton; Kristen Howell, Kaylee Markham, Diana Salinas, all of Golden; Rodrigo Hernandez of Houston; John Curtis DeVaughn of Mantachie; Cheyanne Cassler of Marietta; Reilly Grace Carter, Kenndie K. Gamble, Abby Rinehart, all of Saltillo; Alison Bryant Huckaby and Maddie West, both of Tupelo.             Yielding is majoring in Spanish/journalism at ICC where she is a member of the BSU Lead Team, Student Government Association, Chieftain editor and former soccer player. Her honors include the President’s List, Mississippi Eminent Scholar and recipient of the Modern Language Art Award. She is a member of Crosspointe Fellowship. ICC pathway programs scheduled to begin Mar. 30

           Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for several pathway programs that are scheduled to begin Mar. 30 at the Belden Center.             They include Small Engine Repair, Introduction to Welding and Cutting and Basic Residential Wiring. Small Engine Repair will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through May 20. The 16-session program will prepare participants for a career as they develop small engine repair skills in basic maintenance, recoil systems, fuel systems, ignition systems/electrical circuits and disassembling and rebuilding small engines. Successful completion of the program entitles the participant to have an opportunity to obtain an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair business or to open his/her own shop. Successful completers will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification exam. The cost of the program is $369. Introduction to Welding and Cutting meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m. through Apr. 29. ICC's Salinas selected semifinalist for prestigious Cooke scholarship

            Itawamba Community College sophomore Diana Salinas of Golden has been named one of five semifinalists from Mississippi for the prestigious Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.             This year’s 406 semifinalists were chosen from a pool of more than 1,500 applicants attending 398 community colleges in 44 states and the District of Columbia, according to an announcement from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation.             Salinas is majoring in computer science at ICC, where she is vice president of the Student Government Association, president of the Computer Science Club, Diamond Girl, member of the Honors College and vice president of leadership and regional reporter for Phi Theta Kappa. Her honors include Hall of Fame, Dean’s and President’s lists, SGA Scholarship, Dean’s Scholarship, All-Mississippi Academic Team and NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars. Her community and church activities are translating, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and tutoring. She plans to transfer to the University of Mississippi. Her parents are Gabriela Cortes and Santos Vazquez.
