PN graduates to receive pins and lamps

            Several area residents will receive their pins and lamps from Itawamba Community College’s Practical Nursing program at noon, June 30.             Graduates include Ragan Fears of Amory; Stephanie Anderson of Becker; Zakia Crump of Booneville; Samantha Holloway of Ecru; Nickie Williams of Guntown; April Griffin of Houston; Laken Dunaway of Mantachie; Gayla McGreger, Kelli White, both of Mooreville; Molly Bunch-Maxwell, Victoria Eldridge, Robert Fitts, Summer Gant, Jessica Ramos, all  of Pontotoc; Justin Rumsey of Ripley; Morgan Raines of Saltillo; Makayla Young of Shannon; Daniel Frayer, Billie C. Goode, Hali Sasik, all of Smithville; Evangeline Adcock, Aubrey Betts, Leah Hannon, August McElwain, all of Tupelo; and Christal Matthews of West Point.             Practical Nursing is a one-year (three-semester) program. Upon completion, graduates receive a Certificate of Completion and are eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board examination) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.             Dr. Lisa Pearson of Amory is the program director. Instructors include Tammy Jones of Pontotoc; Lisa McNeese of Smithville and Patricia Robbins of Blue Springs.

ICC selects 2020-21 cheerleading team

            Itawamba Community College has selected its cheerleading team for 2020-21 based on recent tryouts.             They include McKenna Chisholm, Sydney Elkin, both of Amory; Reese Frady of Caledonia; Harley Grace Boone, Leanna Billingsley, Sydney Duggar, all of Guntown; Isabella Graves of Mooreville; Lexie McDaniel of Oxford; Emory McNatt, Lindzie Hurd, Lorryn Holcomb, all of Pontotoc; Pierce Thornton of Randolph; Jacob Payne, John Bryant Stanford, both of Saltillo; Karsyn Owens and Tyler Estes, both of Tupelo. Cheer coaches are Taylor Tutor of Ecru and Morgan O’Callaghan of Saltillo.

ICC releases reopening plan for fall; classes to begin as originally scheduled

            Itawamba Community College announced plans today to open its doors for classes for the fall semester on Aug. 17 as originally scheduled as well as provided more details regarding educational delivery methods, student activities and athletics.             The scheduled opening is part of the recommendations from the college’s 21-member Reopening Task Force, which was appointed to examine campus operations, sanitation, student activities, facilities, residence halls, academics and athletics.             “At the onset of COVID-19 in Mississippi, we suspended nearly all in-person operations at ICC, including face-to-face instruction,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This was a challenging decision; however, we were prepared for the transition to online instruction due to our nationally-recognized eLearning Department and our dedicated faculty. We have since shifted to returning our employees to our facilities, while never ceasing to impede the successes of our past, current and potential students. ICC offers several Healthcare Provider CPR classes

            Registration is under way for several Healthcare Provider CPR classes at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Interested individuals can select from classes offered from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on June 20, July 18, Aug. 1 and 15. Participants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis due to a limited number for each class.             The class is designed for those who need to know how to perform CPR in a healthcare setting and who deal directly with patients in medical settings, both in-hospital and out-of-hospital.             The $45 fee includes the book.             For more information or to register, call (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.

Registration continues for summer term that begins June 29

            Registration is continuing for an additional summer term, which will begin June 29 at Itawamba Community College.             The last day to add classes is June 30.             According to a previous announcement, ICC’s July class schedule will include face-to-face, online and hybrid classes.             To register, email eadviser@iccms.edu.             For more information, email admissions@iccms.edu.

ICC to offer Summer Institute

           Itawamba Community College will offer three opportunities as part of its upcoming Summer Institute.             Participants in the Graduation Academy, which will begin June 1, are students who lack specific courses to complete degree requirements. They have been contacted about enrollment opportunities, according to Dr. Brandi McCraw, instructional coordinator.             The Musicians Academy is for music majors (voice and non-voice) to complete a lab-based science during the summer term while they also become more fluent in reading music. Each student will be enrolled in a four-hour lab-based science course and in Fundamentals of Music, McCraw said.             “Developmental education courses can add the expense of unplanned, extra semesters to a student’s collegiate experience,” McCraw said. The Summer Bridge program targets students who have an ACT math sub-score of 16-18 and enrolls each into a summer cohort with handpicked instructors who are dedicated to student success. “The academic progress for this cohort of students is carefully tracked by our academic support specialists in order to provide the tools each student needs to successfully move to the next course ...

ICC appoints reopening plan task force

            Itawamba Community College is actively making plans to safely open its doors for the 2020 fall semester with the appointment of a task force that will examine all options.             The 21 members, which touch all areas of the college, had a virtual organizational meeting on May 18, and its goal is the announcement of a plan on June 15.             “Our goal is to develop guidelines and protocols for the 2020 fall semester while following the guidance of public health officials and take a measured approach in determining how and when to welcome students back to campus and fully resume face-to-face instruction and services,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen.             Approximately 100 administrators, faculty, staff and students will be involved in the process through the task force and additional participation in three breakout committees – Health Standards for Employees, Students and Visitors Proposal (Rilla Jones, Dean of Health Science Instruction); Residence Halls. Ware, Waters selected as MCCLA participants

            Dr. Cheryl Ware, Physical Therapist Assistant program director, and TZ Waters, director of workforce training, at Itawamba Community College have been selected as participants for the 2020-21 Mississippi Community College Leadership Academy.             A member of the ICC faculty since 1996, Ware was named PTA program director in 2016. She earned the bachelor’s degree in biology from Millsaps College and both bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her memberships include American Physical Therapy Association, Mississippi Physical Therapy Association and the ICC Faculty Association. Ware’s community service activities include Harrisburg Baptist Church Sunday school teacher, Scoliosis screenings at Tupelo High School and member of the Board of Directors for Sanctuary Hospice. Currently she is the Health Science representative for the ICC Learning Resource and eLearning committees and an on-site reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. Drive-thru diploma pick up cancelled June 9 due to inclement weather; June 10 and 11 pickup times available

            Although the traditional ceremony has been postponed, members of Itawamba Community College’s Class of 2020 will have an opportunity to pick up their diplomas June 10 in Tupelo and June 11 in Fulton. The pickup date originally scheduled for the Tupelo Campus on June 9 has been cancelled due to inclement weather.             Drive-thru pickup locations and times are June 10, Health Science Education Center, Tupelo Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. and June 11, Cypress Pavilion, Fulton Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.             Students must present their student ID or driver’s license, and no third-party pick up will be allowed. Members of Phi Theta Kappa can pick up stoles and tassels at either location. The $35 is payable in cash with the correct change or completed check. All Honors College students must pick up their medallions at the Tupelo Campus on June 10 or the Fulton Campus, June 11.             All passengers in vehicles are encouraged to wear masks.             Diplomas will be mailed to graduates who cannot pick them up on the available dates.             ...

Eligible ICC students to begin receipt of CARES payments this week

             Itawamba Community College students who are eligible to receive funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act will begin to receive payments this week.             The federal relief provides funds to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including those eligible under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare.             “We are committed to providing student financial assistance because that leads to their success,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “ICC will disburse more than $2 million in federal funds to more than 2,500 students to enable them to obtain the necessities for a quality educational foundation.”             ICC’s students have been assigned to two groups for payment, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. Group one, which includes 2,287 students who are Free Application for Federal Student Aid filers, will be paid today (Wednesday) with refunds sent to BankMobile on Friday.
