ICC, UWA sign memorandum of understanding Itawamba Community College and the University of West Alabama have signed a memorandum of understanding to ease the transition for qualified transfer students. The agreement, which was signed by ICC President Dr. Jay Allen and UWA President Dr. Ken Tucker, guarantees admission to all ICC students based on a 2.0 grade point average and 48 transferrable credit hours or completion of their associate’s degree program at ICC. In addition, it offers pre-transfer advising offered at ICC and/or the UWA campus with an academic adviser as well as dedicates academic scholarships to ICC students with a 3.0 or higher GPA. ICC students who receive academic scholarships will also be eligible to apply for housing scholarships to assist with and encourage on-campus residency. “This agreement will allow our students new opportunities to complete their degrees at the University of West Alabama in a variety of disciplines, both within the curricula and beyond,” Allen said. “This is significant for both our traditional students and adult learners, who now have an option to take advantage of new on-campus learning experiences as well as an extensive flexible ... Formal opening for Tupelo building, March 2 Itawamba Community College will formally open its Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus with a dedication program and ribbon cutting at 2 p.m., Mar. 2. The 50,944-square-foot two-story building includes the bookstore (Grounds Coffee Shop), cafeteria, business office, admissions, financial aid, advising center, computer lab, conference room, faculty offices and classrooms for social sciences, fine arts and business courses. ICC's Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program to offer class in Aberdeen Registration is underway for an evening class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program, which will begin Mar. 23 at Aberdeen High School. The class, which will meet Mondays through Thursdays through May 14 from 5:30-8:30 p.m., is open to the general public. The program is designed to prepare participants desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and will earn nationally-recognized credentials. ICC's Paralegal Technology program is in the nation's top 10 Itawamba Community College’s Paralegal Technology program has been selected as one of the top 10 online Paralegal degree programs in the nation by BestColleges. ICC offers two degrees in paralegal studies: an online Associate of Applied Science degree in paralegal technology and an Associate of Arts degree in general studies with a paralegal studies emphasis. The two-year A.A.S. degree in paralegal technology includes coursework in legal research, civil litigation and legal writing. Coursework in wills and estates, family law, torts and real property introduces students to subsets of the legal field while providing information about legal principles and procedures, according to program director Jamie Hall. Students gain the analytical, communication, research and technical skills needed to work alongside legal professionals. The program also includes an internship during which students apply learned concepts. Cass Patrick to represent ICC as William Winter Scholar Dr. Cass Patrick of Tupelo, Fine Arts division chair, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2020. He will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 31st Annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 27-29. Patrick, who is in his 24th year at ICC, also teaches freshman and sophomore music theory, jazz improvisation, music appreciation, classical and jazz guitar and directs the ICC Jazz Band. He has previously been an assistant band director, woodwinds instructor and director of the woodwind choir. Prior to ICC, he was the director of the Jazz Studies and Classical Guitar programs at Auburn University. In addition to teaching, Patrick has remained active as a performer, arranger and composer as well as serving on numerous occasions as a clinician and adjudicator for various jazz festivals and solo ensemble competitions around the Mid-South.
