ICC's Celebration of Unity programs set for Feb. 4 at both Fulton and Tupelo Itawamba Community College’s Student Government Associations and Student Activities have scheduled Celebration of Unity programs at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, Feb. 4. The Tupelo Campus program will be at 12:05 p.m. in the student presentation room of the Student Support Center, and the Fulton Campus event will be at 7 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. Juanita Floyd, vice president of finance and administration for the CREATE Foundation and co-author of “Summer of 1969,” will be the speaker for both programs. She has been employed with the Foundation for almost 35 years. The Foundation established the Bernice Gambrell Endowment Fund in the amount of $10,000 to honor both Floyd on her 20th anniversary as well as her mother. She is active in community affairs, serving on several boards. Floyd was the Tupelo PTO President and was selected “Parent of the Year” in 2008. ICC receives $500,000 in grants to enhance Industrial Maintenance and implement Robotics/Automation Control Itawamba Community College has received $500,000 from two grant sources to enhance its Industrial Maintenance associate degree program as well as to implement Robotics and Automation Control Technology at the Belden Center. The grants of $250,000 each were from the Appalachian Regional Commission/Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act – Governor’s Reserve Funds. Administered by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the Governor’s Reserve Funds support employment and training activities. According to Barry Emison, dean of career and technical education, the funds will be used to purchase five Yaskawa robotic trainers and two automated manufacturing simulation trainers. “This will afford ICC students the opportunity to learn the advanced skill sets found in today’s automated manufacturing and distribution facilities.” Emison said that the new program, which is scheduled to begin in August, is expected to increase the number of high-skilled technicians for high-demand jobs in ICC’s five-county service ... Spring semester registration continues Open registration at Itawamba Community College for the 2020 spring semester is continuing. Students can register for spring semester classes through Jan. 14 for full-term traditional classes and January eight-week traditional and eLearning terms; and Jan. 17 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. However, class selection could possibly be limited. Registration underway for Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification class Registration is underway for a day class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program, which will begin Jan. 13, 2020 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet Mondays through Thursdays through Feb. 27 from 8 a.m.-noon. The program is designed to prepare participants desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful.
