AMT application deadline extended through June 1

                The application deadline for the Advanced Manufacturing Technician program, which is offered at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center, has been extended through June 1.                 The AMT program is designed as an innovative manufacturing degree that will span five semesters of classroom instruction and provide paid, hands-0n experience at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Mississippi’s Blue Springs automotive assembly plant.                 The Industrial Maintenance curriculum includes instruction in areas, including electricity, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication and robotics, as well as advanced manufacturing, business principles and best practices. Upon completion of the program, candidates will earn an associate’s degree.                 In addition to in-depth instruction in manufacturing, the program includes semester-long modules in safety culture, workplace organization, Lean manufacturing, problem-solving and maintenance reliability, It emphasizes attendance, initiative, diligence, verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and professionalism.                 Prospective students will be accepted based on academic success as measured through grades, class rank, math capabilities and the ability to work in a team and problem-solving environment. Ikawa selected Coca-Cola Silver Scholar

          Nami Ikawa of Saltillo, a sophomore at Itawamba Community College, has been named a 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar and will receive a $1,250 scholarship.             The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 silver and 50 Bronze Scholars across the nation with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.             Ikawa, who is majoring in exercise science, is president of the Tupelo Campus Student Government Association; vice president of scholarship for the Beta Tau Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa; supplemental instruction leader for college algebra, English and anatomy and physiology; and student representative for the academic calendar and enrollment. judicial disciplinary hearing and graphic standards committees. Her honors include ICC Hall of Fame, Miss ICC finalist, president’s list, honor student, All-Mississippi Academic Team and Tri-State Educational Foundation Scholarship recipient. ICC accepts nominations for 2020 Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame

           Nominations are being accepted for the 2020 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees at Itawamba Community College through Aug. 1.             Those selected will be honored during homecoming activities this fall at the Fulton Campus.             Criteria for selection for Alumnus of the Year include successful completion of at least one semester as a full-time student at ICC five years prior to the current year as well as merit and achievement which have brought fame and honor to either his/her community or ICC.             ICC’s Athletic Hall of Fame honors former athletes, coaches or individuals who have excelled or those who have made major contributions to intercollegiate athletics while attending or employed by ICC. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees must have been out of school at least 10 years. ICC's Morgan, Pounds selected for prestigious Delta Scholars program

            Sophomores Katherine Morgan of Hatley and Anna Pounds of Golden are the first from Itawamba Community College to be selected for the Delta Scholars Program.             The Delta Scholars Summer Institute is a 10-day immersion program for approximately 12 undergraduates committed to improving the living experience of residents in the Mississippi Delta. Working in conjunction with the Harvard Law School Mississippi Delta Fellow, the Institute will be at the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors college on the campus of Mississippi State University. The institute will feature informational meetings with academics, policymakers and non-profit organizations in the Delta. Scholars will be mentored by the Harvard Delta Fellow and by faculty advisers who conduct research that focuses on food security, education and economic development in the region. As scholars learn the history of an issue from multidisciplinary perspectives, they will also learn how to advocate local public officials, nongovernmental agencies, business leaders and state representatives in support of an approach that helps remedy the issue. ICC extends health programs application deadline

           With the challenges presented by the coronavirus, Itawamba Community College has extended the deadline to May 1 for the submission of applications for several health-related programs at Itawamba Community College.             In addition, the new deadline to submit all required documentation for admission, including observation hours, transcripts, ACT scores and proof of certification is June 1.             The programs include associate degree nursing, health information technology, licensed practical nursing (August class), occupational therapy assistant technology, physical therapist assistant technology, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy technology and surgical technology, all at the Tupelo Campus.             For more information about program requirements, access ICC’s website at www.iccms.edu or call (662) 620-5239.

Four-week eLearning term

ICC postpones dinner theatre

     Itawamba Community College has postponed its production of “Over the River and Through the Woods,” which was scheduled Mar. 23-28, as a result of the recommendation by the Center for Disease Control and the Mississippi State Department of Health to delay gatherings of 50 or more individuals.    “This decision was difficult to make because we are aware of the many hours spent in rehearsal and preparation by the cast, crew and director for this very special event,” said ICC President Dt. Jay Allen. “It is our hope that the ‘show will go on’ at a later time!”

McIntosh, Heath elected 2020 Mr. and Miss ICC

            TJ McIntosh of Wren and Lauren Heath of Randolph have been elected Mr. and Miss Itawamba Community College for 2019-20.             McIntosh is majoring in biology/pre-medicine concentration at ICC, where he is vice president of the Student Government Association, Indian Delegate, Phi Theta Kappa officer, MAN UP tutor and a member of Sigma Delta Kappa, the Science Club and ICC All-American Band. His honors include president’s list, 2020 Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship semifinalist, All-Mississippi Academic Team and Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship recipient. He is a member of the Greater New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as president of the youth department and youth usher. He is the son of Torrance and Sylvia McIntosh.             Heath is a member of the Indian Delegation, Phi Theta Kappa, Science Club and Communication Chiefs; president of the Baptist Student Union and an Orientation Leader. Twelve sophomores selected for 2020 ICC Hall of Fame

            Twelve Itawamba Community College sophomores have been selected as members of the prestigious Hall of Fame for 2019-20.             They include Edward A. Bean of New Albany; Jared Brittian Callihan of Amory; Jeffery Earnest, Amber Jones, both of Tupelo; Madison Haley of Olive Branch; Kalyn Johnson of Fulton; Nami Ikawa, Jillian McCollum, Kaylika Pulphus, all of Saltillo; TJ McIntosh of Wren; Mary-Elizabeth Moore of Red Bay, Ala. and Anna Pounds of Belmont.             Bean is majoring in Electrical Technology. The son of Michael and Linda Bean, he is married to Melanie.             Callihan, who is majoring in Surgical Technology, was named to the president’s list. He is the son of Kelley Callihan.             Earnest is a member of Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Student Association and the Nurses’ Christian Fellowship. His honors include dean’s and president’s lists and National Association of Licensed Practical Nursing.
