Drive-thru diploma pick up cancelled June 9 due to inclement weather; June 10 and 11 pickup times available

            Although the traditional ceremony has been postponed, members of Itawamba Community College’s Class of 2020 will have an opportunity to pick up their diplomas June 10 in Tupelo and June 11 in Fulton. The pickup date originally scheduled for the Tupelo Campus on June 9 has been cancelled due to inclement weather.             Drive-thru pickup locations and times are June 10, Health Science Education Center, Tupelo Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m. and June 11, Cypress Pavilion, Fulton Campus, 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m.             Students must present their student ID or driver’s license, and no third-party pick up will be allowed. Members of Phi Theta Kappa can pick up stoles and tassels at either location. The $35 is payable in cash with the correct change or completed check. All Honors College students must pick up their medallions at the Tupelo Campus on June 10 or the Fulton Campus, June 11.             All passengers in vehicles are encouraged to wear masks.             Diplomas will be mailed to graduates who cannot pick them up on the available dates.             ...

Eligible ICC students to begin receipt of CARES payments this week

             Itawamba Community College students who are eligible to receive funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act will begin to receive payments this week.             The federal relief provides funds to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including those eligible under a student’s cost of attendance, such as food, housing, course materials, technology, health care and childcare.             “We are committed to providing student financial assistance because that leads to their success,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “ICC will disburse more than $2 million in federal funds to more than 2,500 students to enable them to obtain the necessities for a quality educational foundation.”             ICC’s students have been assigned to two groups for payment, according to Terry Bland, director of financial aid. Group one, which includes 2,287 students who are Free Application for Federal Student Aid filers, will be paid today (Wednesday) with refunds sent to BankMobile on Friday. Group two (FAFSA non-filers) will be paid June 10 with refunds sent to BankMobile for disbursement ...

ICC adjusts online orientation schedule

            Online registration is continuing for upcoming freshman orientation sessions at Itawamba Community College.             According to Dr. Melissa Haab, dean of enrollment services, adjustments have been made to the original schedule because of just-announced summer hours/days for ICC.             The available sessions, which are free and will be conducted exclusively online, include June 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; and July 14, 21 and 28.             “Students are encouraged to participate in a freshman orientation session as soon as possible to ensure that they can select from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors for their classes,” Haab said.  Students will complete the session on the date they select, and the following business day, they will be contacted by their adviser for class registration.             ICC orientation is mandatory for all graduating high school seniors. ICC to broadcast online commencement ceremony May 14

            Itawamba Community College will broadcast an online commencement ceremony to honor the Class of 2020, at 7 p.m., May 14.             The ceremony will be broadcast via ICC’s Facebook Live and on www.LetsGoICCTV.com/red.             “The historical format of the ceremony will continue, including the listing of names of all of the graduates, the announcement of honors and conferral of degrees,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “Special music will be provided by students enrolled in ICC’s music department.”             ICC announced earlier the postponement of the ceremony from May 8 due to MSDH and CDC guidelines as a result of the impact of COVID-19. “It is our goal to provide the class of 2020 an opportunity to march in a traditional ceremony, pending the status of the public health emergency,” Allen said. “Once a date has been determined, graduates will have the opportunity to register to participate. ICC students place in state writing competition

           Three students at Itawamba Community College were among the winners in the 2020 Mississippi Community College Creative Writers Association competition.             They include Charlie Wright of Pontotoc, first place in dramatic writing for “An Accumulation of Anguish;” Mary-Elizabeth Moore of Red Bay, Ala., third place in poetry for “The Question;” and Briana Polk of Tupelo, honorable mention in poetry for “Drowning.”             The competition included poetry, short story, essay (creative nonfiction), literary essay, dramatic writing and college literary magazine.             First, second and third place winners received monetary prizes of $100, $60 and $40, respectively.

ICC adjusts 2020 camp schedule

            Due to the continuing impact of COVID-19, Itawamba Community College has adjusted its summer camp schedule.             To continue compliance with MSDH and CDC guidelines, ICC will offer no summer camps in June, but is examining the possibility of hosting day camps in July. Because ICC cares about the members of its community, the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 Summer Band Camp, and refunds for those who have already registered will be processed soon.             “ICC takes great pride in providing numerous opportunities for our communities at all three locations through our summer camp program,” said Dr. Brad Boggs, dean of students. “ICC takes very seriously the health and well-being of families who will send their children to our summer camps, and we want to ensure that they have an opportunity to take full advantage of the total experience in a normal situation. By cancelling, postponing or possibly offering our camps in a restructured format, we feel that we can better accomplish that.”

ICC extends audition deadline for Indianettes, Color Guard

               Itawamba Community College has extended the deadline for video auditions for Indianettes and Color Guard to May 16 due to responses received about circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 virus and potential technical difficulties that come with submitting video auditions, according to Ryan Todd, director of the All-American Band.                 Those who would like to audition for Indianettes or Color Guard should refer to the requirements at www.iccms.edu. Registration continues for intersession, summer terms

            Registration is continuing for intersession and summer terms at Itawamba Community College.             Due to COVID-19, all classes have been transitioned to an online format.             Intersession classes begin May 11 and end with final examinations on May 22.             Additional schedule opportunities with start dates include eLearning full-term and first four-week classes, June 1; and second term classes, June 29.             To register for intersession or summer classes, email eadviser@iccms.edu.             For more information, email admissions@iccms.edu.
