Spring semester registration continues

            Open registration at Itawamba Community College for the 2020 spring semester is continuing.             Students can register for spring semester classes through Jan. 14 for full-term traditional classes and January eight-week traditional and eLearning terms; and Jan. 17 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. However, class selection could possibly be limited.             Registration is available at the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus weekdays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. except for Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., and the David C. Cole Student Services Building at the Fulton Campus, weekdays from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.             Traditional day classes begin Jan. 8, and eLearning classes, Jan. 13.             Individuals who have earned some college credit but insufficient hours for a degree can receive information about the statewide Complete2Compete initiative during a scheduled open registration session, which is designed primarily for returning adult learners, on Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus in the Student Support Center. ICC schedules Food Service Pathway class

           Itawamba Community College has scheduled a six-week Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Jan. 13, 2020.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Feb. 21.             The program includes Serve Safe® certification, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.             For more information or to register, contact program director Christy Scheuer at acscheuer@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1505; or pathway coordinator Josh Gammill at jegammill@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1569.

ICC to participate in GivingTuesday, Dec. 3

            Itawamba Community College will participate in the nationwide GivingTuesday campaign, Dec. 3.             GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement, unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. Registration underway for Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification class

            Registration is underway for a day class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program, which will begin Jan. 13, 2020 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class will meet Mondays through Thursdays through Feb. 27 from 8 a.m.-noon.             The program is designed to prepare participants desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and will earn nationally-recognized credentials.             Developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the north Mississippi region, the 94-hour MSBC program includes three national credentials – 10-hour OSHA, the American Heart Association’s CPR and the Career Readiness Certificate. Comprehensive interactive classes, computer-based tools, experienced instructors and excellent reference materials create a valuable training experience. Lowe selected as ICC's first PTK Faculty Scholar

            Robin Lowe of Amory, director of the Itawamba Community College Honors College, an English instructor and Phi Theta Kappa contact adviser, has been selected as a PTK Faculty Scholar.             Her selection is the first in the 50-year history of Phi Theta Kappa at ICC.             “I am beyond thrilled to be chosen for such a prestigious honor,” Lowe said. “Thank you, Phi Theta Kappa and ICC for this amazing opportunity.”             Faculty Scholars are selected primarily on the basis of their application, but preference is given to those with the following characteristics: experience facilitating small-group discussions; intellectual curiosity, empathy and interest in the PTK Honors Study topic and Leadership Development program; understanding of or willingness to learn about Honors in Action, diversity, length of service to PTK, geographic location and field of study.             Lowe is an active member of Beta Sigma Phi Epsilon Nu Chapter. Adults can take advantage of increased C2C funds in the spring to complete degree at ICC

             Beginning in January, adults who have earned some college credit but insufficient hours for a degree may qualify for a Complete 2 Compete grant of $1,000 per semester to finish the necessary requirements at Itawamba Community College.             The grant is renewable per semester as long as the recipients remain in good academic standing.             “We are excited to be able to continue to assist students with obtaining their first postsecondary degree, and we are confident that the grant increase will further accelerate our ability to do so,” said Amber Palmer, project coordinator for Mississippi Public Universities.             ICC is among Mississippi’s two- and four-year institutions which are collaborating in the Complete 2 Compete initiative.             “Itawamba Community College is excited about the unlimited possibilities Complete 2 Compete is providing for residents of our region and beyond,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “It enables us to provide an exceptional educational foundation to enhance the quality of life, particularly for the adult learner segment of the population.”             Complete 2 Compete is available to Mississippi adults who are ...

Code Blue and Red event set Nov. 15 - it is only a drill!

 Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 9-11 a.m., Nov. 15, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Twenty three students from Saltillo High School will be on campus to view this simulation of a catastrophic event, which will showcase five health science programs, said Dr. Melissa Haab, dean of enrollment services. An North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Haab said, “and the hope is that we can use this as a model for other groups to visit the campus as well as to help students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Paramedic, Respiratory Care, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology.
