ICC schedules Preparing for the ACT

The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled two options for Preparing for the ACT.             The weekly option will begin Feb. 5 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) and will meet Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. through Apr. 2 except for no meeting on Mar. 12. The $100 fee includes the book. Preparing for the ACT will also be offered six Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. English and reading will be covered Jan. 21, Mar. 24 and May 26, and math and science, Feb. 3, Apr. 7 and May 19. Cost is $50 for each session.             ICC’s ACT prep class instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods including review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for studying smart that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests will be administered to measure performance, and extensive handouts will be provided for skill practice.            ...

Connect2ICC at ICC-Tupelo, Jan. 6

Connect2ICC will provide an opportunity for students to register for the spring semester at Itawamba Community College from 8:30-11:30 a.m., Jan. 6, in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus.             The session is designed for current and returning students, high school equivalency graduates, adult learners and transfer students.             Academic advising, online orientation, scholarships and financial aid representatives will be available to provide assistance as well as a career coach, who can evaluate transcripts for those individuals who are eligible to participate in the Complete2Compete program, a statewide initiative to enable individuals who lack only a few credit hours to earn their degrees.             Individuals who are 23 or older and not enrolled in college for the previous two years can also apply for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. ICC schedules adult education classes

Adult education classes are set to begin in Itawamba Community College’s five-county district the week of January 8.             The schedule includes             Chickasaw County – Houston WIN Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.;             Itawamba County - Bethel Baptist Church (Dorsey), Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.             Lee County – Itawamba Community College-Belden, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Family Resource Center (Tupelo), Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m.;             Monroe County – Amory WIN Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m.-noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m.;             Pontotoc County – Pontotoc WIN Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.             The English As a Second Language schedule includes ICC Belden Center, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Family Resource Center, Monday and Wednesday 9 a.m.-noon and Monday and Tuesday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; and Pontotoc WIN Center, Monday and Tuesday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.             The classes provide an opportunity for students to prepare for the high school equivalency test or to learn basic skills in ...

BELDEN MOCK DRILL

            Itawamba Community College will conduct a mock active shooter drill at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) from 8 a.m.-noon, Jan. 4.             “This will be a test of our emergency preparedness procedures,” said Dr. Brad Boggs, interim vice president of student services. “The normal operation of the facility will not be disrupted.”             The event, which is only a training exercise, will take from 3-4 hours and will occur on the south side of the Belden Center, Boggs said. “This will provide local law enforcement, emergency responders and the College an opportunity to work together in the event of an incident. We want to ensure that all members of the staff understand their responsibilities as we strengthen our effort to maintain a safe campus environment and that the public is aware that this is only a drill.”

Spring 2018 Open Registration

            Open registration at Itawamba Community College has been scheduled for the 2018 spring semester.             Dates and times include Jan. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; Jan. 4 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Fulton Campus and from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; January 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, and Jan. 6 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Locations are the Administration Building at the Fulton Campus and the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus.             It is possible to register for spring semester classes through Jan. 12 for traditional full-term evening classes, traditional eight-week accelerated term; Jan. 17 for the eight-week eLearning term; Jan. 19 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. Jan. 16 is deadline for applying for ICC Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship

Jan. 16 is the deadline for applying for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship for those enrolling for the 2018 spring semester at Itawamba Community College. The scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester, is designed to provide an incentive for new or returning students, age 23 or older, not enrolled in college for the previous two years to pursue a degree at ICC.              Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. The scholarship cannot be combined with other ICC institutional scholarships.             Day and evening academic, career and technical, eLearning and workforce classes are available in Fulton, Tupelo and Belden.             ICC will be closed Dec. 19-Jan. 1. Open registration is scheduled for Jan. 4 and 5 at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. MSBC class set for January

Registration is continuing for a day class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program which will begin Jan. 16 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class will meet Mondays through Thursdays through Feb. 28 from 8 a.m.-noon.             The program is designed to prepare students desiring to have a career in high-performance manufacturing to be successful. Through this program, students use critical thinking skills, update core skills and knowledge and will earn nationally-recognized credentials.             Developed to respond to core knowledge for the current and emerging industry sectors located within the north Mississippi region, the 94-hour MBSC includes three national credentials – 10-hour OSHA, the American Heart Association’s CPR and the Career Readiness Certificate. Comprehensive interactive classes, computer-based tools, experienced instructors and excellent reference materials create a valuable training experience. ICC to offer Complete2Compete information sessions

Area residents who have earned some college credit but insufficient hours for a degree can receive information about the statewide Complete2Compete initiative during special sessions at Itawamba Community College in January. Dates are Jan. 4 from 5-7 p.m. and Jan. 6 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Student Support Center on the Tupelo Campus. ICC is among Mississippi’s two- and four-year institutions collaborating in the Complete2Compete initiative, which is designed to increase the number of adults with postsecondary degrees or credentials of value to positively impact the state’s educational attainment rate and economy as well as the quality of life for those who complete their degrees. The program matches adults with a Complete2Compete coach at an institution who reviews prior credit and provides them with a pathway for obtaining a degree. Complete2Compete is available to Mississippi adults who are at least 21 years old, have not earned a postsecondary degree and have been out of college for at least two years. Spring registration continues through Dec. 18

Registration for the 2018 spring semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Dec. 18. To register, visit the Student Affairs offices on either the Fulton or Tupelo campuses between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., weekdays. Locations are the Student Support Center (Tupelo) and David C. Cole Student Services building (Fulton). Academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are always available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. New or returning students, age 23 or older, who have not been enrolled in college for the previous two years, can apply for an Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC.
