PN class application Nov. 1 is the deadline for application for a practical nursing class beginning in January 2018 at Itawamba Community College. Upon completion of the 12-month (three semester) program, the graduate will receive a certificate and will be eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensed practical nurses work under the direction of registered nurses and physicians. They provide direct patient care including treatments and medication delivery in nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, physician’s offices, schools and private homes. Paranormal author schedules ICC visit L. Sydney Fisher, paranormal author and researcher of true hauntings and supernatural phenomena, true ghost stories, unsolved mysteries and true crime, will visit the Learning Resource Center at the Fulton Campus at 1:30 p.m., Oct. 31. Fisher will discuss her new book, The Devil’s Board, as well as share other haunting stories. A 2001 Writer’s Digest finalist as well as a 2016 Silver Falchion Award finalist, Fisher wrote her first novella by the age of 15. Her family’s roots are deep in Northeast Mississippi, but she also spent time as a child in Missouri and Tennessee. She earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and the master’s degree from the University of Missouri. Financial aid plans area events Representatives of Itawamba Community College’s financial aid department will be available at area high schools in a series of FAFSA Completion days and Parent Nights during October and November. Parent Night, which is usually a one-hour event, is an overview of what is available in financial aid as well as information about housing, admissions and all of ICC’s applications, according to Terry Bland, ICC financial aid director. The FAFSA Completion Day consists of 30-minute sessions one-on-one with a financial aid counselor. Assistance will be provided with application for federal, state and county aid as well as answering questions. Registration continues for Counseling to Career program Registration is continuing for the Counseling to Career program at Itawamba Community College. The program is designed for individuals who are between the ages of 16-24, do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent, want career coaching and are serious about exploring employment opportunities. In addition, those who have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma may qualify if they have another type of barrier, including but not limited to, single parent, low income, disabilities and homeless. Enrollments are currently being accepted for new training sessions in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties. Participants receive a $50 gas card incentive a week for the first two weeks. C2C at ICC can open doors for opportunities in certified nursing assistant; welding and heating ventilation and air conditioning. The first phase of the program is three weeks. ICC offers Pathway to Construction Employment Registration is underway for a Pathway to Construction Employment program, which is scheduled for Oct. 30-Nov. 15 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). The sessions will meet Mondays through Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Topics include basic safety, construction math, introduction to hand tools and power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication and employability skills and introduction to material handling. The 64-hour program includes the core curriculum of the National Center for Construction Education and Research. No experience and no skills are necessary. DPW screening Oct. 13 Itawamba Community College’s film students played a vital role in the filming of a new TV show at the Tupelo Campus during spring break. The students worked as the crew for “DPW” (Department of Public Works) for which a screening is scheduled at 7 p.m., Oct. 13, at the Link Centre in Tupelo. The public is invited. Professionals from Los Angeles were hired for the main film positions by New Jersey producer PJ Leonard. According to Morgan Cutturini, sponsor of ICC’s Film Club and English instructor, in this sitcom, the team of intellectually-challenged employees must eventually work together to save each other from embarrassment and from being fired. ICC, MUW sign articulation agreement An articulation agreement signed today between Mississippi University for Women and Itawamba Community College will give students in the allied health profession upward mobility in their career.
