DPW screening Oct. 13 Itawamba Community College’s film students played a vital role in the filming of a new TV show at the Tupelo Campus during spring break. The students worked as the crew for “DPW” (Department of Public Works) for which a screening is scheduled at 7 p.m., Oct. 13, at the Link Centre in Tupelo. The public is invited. Professionals from Los Angeles were hired for the main film positions by New Jersey producer PJ Leonard. According to Morgan Cutturini, sponsor of ICC’s Film Club and English instructor, in this sitcom, the team of intellectually-challenged employees must eventually work together to save each other from embarrassment and from being fired. Three of the show’s stars include Obba Babatunde′ (from “Madame Secretary” and “Grey’s Anatomy”), Josh Sussman (from “Glee”) and James Madio (from “Hook” and “Band of Brothers”). ICC, MUW sign articulation agreement An articulation agreement signed today between Mississippi University for Women and Itawamba Community College will give students in the allied health profession upward mobility in their career. The formal signing, held in Tupelo, was for The W’s new Bachelor of Applied Science in public health education program. “Itawamba Community College appreciates the significant partnership with Mississippi University for Women, one that will provide our students in the allied health programs, with a seamless transition as they pursue the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in public health education,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This innovative initiative by MUW will not only benefit ICC’s students but will impact regional healthcare as well.” MUW President Jim Borsig said, “We are pleased to be a formal partner with Itawamba Community College. Youth Open Bass Tournament The Itawamba Community College Bass Club will sponsor a Youth Open Bass Tournament, Oct. 21. The tournament is open to any student in the sixth through twelfth grades. Teams will consist of two students, and the boat captain must be 19 years of age or older. The entry fee is $20 per boat. Launch will be at 6:30 a.m. from the Whitten Center in Fulton, and check-in at 2:30 p.m. at the boat ramp. Participants are to lock through at their own risk. Weigh-in is at 3 p.m. in front of the David C. Cole Student Services building on the ICC Fulton Campus. Tailgate contest Area residents are invited to participate in a tailgate contest on the lawn of the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus of Itawamba Community College, beginning at 5 p.m., Sept. 28. Entries, which must have three tailgate leaders, will be judged on creativity, pride, food and atmosphere. Winners of best atmosphere, best food, most spirit and best overall will be announced at 6:30 p.m. The award for best overall will be presented at Eaton Field during ICC’s football game with Pearl River Community College. Each tailgate will include one 10 x 10 space for a personal tent and items. Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe performance Itawamba Community College faculty, staff and students are cordially invited to attend a performance by the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe at 9 a.m., September 13, at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. The dance troupe was formed in 1992 to educate, preserve and restore Chickasaw dance traditions. By keeping this tradition alive, the troupe is able to share the ancient arts of shell shaking, stomp dancing and songs with people from around the world. 2017 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Itawamba Community College will honor its 2017 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during Homecoming activities, Oct. 28, at the Fulton Campus. They include John and Beth Reed Cleveland of Kingwood, Tex., Alumnus of the Year; and Elaine Fagan Battigan of Dublin, Ireland and Duce Staley of Philadelphia, Penn., Athletic Hall of Fame. The Clevelands, who are Itawamba County natives, participated in intercollegiate athletics at ICC, where they pursued majors in the fields of engineering and math and science education. John graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and attended ICC on a basketball scholarship. He earned the associate’s degree from ICC in 1985 and is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in civil engineering. For 26 years he has been employed by ExxonMobil, and he serves as an Ole Miss campus recruiter. He is married to the former Beth Reed, who attended ICC.
