Nursing assistant class

Registration is underway through Sept. 15 for a nursing assistant class at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 16-Dec. 13, but clinicals and CPR class are full-day sessions.             The course prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession.             Cost of the course is $425.             To register or for more information, call (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.

Fall registration continues

Registration is continuing for the 2017 fall semester at Itawamba Community College.             Students may register through Aug. 18 for traditional classes and the Aug. eight-week traditional accelerated term; Aug. 22 for the Aug. eight-week eLearning accelerated term and Aug. 25 for full-term eLearning classes.             Academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden.             For more information, visit the Student Affairs office on the Fulton Campus (David C. Art exhibit

“Places and People We Love: An Artists Private Collection” by Dot Courson of Pontotoc and her daughter, Susan Patton of Bruce,  is currently on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The exhibit, which will run until Sept. 22, includes paintings in Courson’s personal collection. The mother and daughter work as full-time artists, but in slightly different genres. Patton paints portraits and figures, and Courson’s specialty is landscapes. Occasionally both paint figures, still life and landscapes. The collection shows the family, past generations of people and familiar places that the artists love, and all of its paintings are contemporary realism or representational works. Mediums are oil, acrylics and watercolors. Patton paints her Mississippi heritage in her works depicting people in the landscape near her home, and her mother has acquired several of these. Courson holds dear the work she has done due to the subject matter: disappearing landscapes from her childhood, her grandchildren’s playgrounds, some of the children at play or plein air paintings from time spent with special artist friends. Fall 2017 Connect2ICC

Connect2ICC will provide an opportunity for students to register for the fall semester at Itawamba Community College from 8:30-11 a.m., Aug. 12, in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus.             The session is designed for current and returning students, high school equivalency graduates, adult learners and transfer students.             Academic advising, online orientation, scholarships and financial aid representatives will be available to provide assistance.             Individuals who are 23 or older and not enrolled in college for the previous two years can also apply for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. The scholarship cannot be combined with other ICC institutional scholarships.             Traditional day classes begin Aug. 14, and eLearning classes, Aug. 21.             ICC offers academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce training classes. Fall 2017 Open Registration

Open registration at Itawamba Community College has been scheduled for the 2017 fall semester. Dates and times include Aug. 9 from 4:30-7 p.m., Aug. 10 from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Aug. 12 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus; Aug. 10-11 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Administration Building at the Fulton Campus. It is possible to register for fall semester classes through Aug. 18 for traditional classes and the August eight-week traditional accelerated term; Aug. 22 for the August eight-week eLearning accelerated term and Aug. 25 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. However, class selection could possibly be limited. Traditional day classes begin Aug. 14, and eLearning classes, Aug. 21. Adult education classes

Adult education classes are set to begin in Itawamba Community College’s five-county district the week of Aug. 7. The schedule includes  Chickasaw County – Houston WIN Center, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.;  Itawamba County - Bethel Baptist Church (Dorsey), Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Lee County – Itawamba Community College-Belden, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Family Resource Center (Tupelo), Tuesday and Thursday, 5-8 p.m.; Monroe County – Amory WIN Center, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m.-noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Pontotoc County – Pontotoc WIN Center, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. The English As a Second Language schedule includes ICC Belden Center, Tuesday and Thursday, 5:30-8:30 p.m.; Family Resource Center, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.-noon and 5:30-8:30 p.m.; and Pontotoc Attendance Center, TBA. The classes provide an opportunity for students to prepare for the high school equivalency test or to learn basic skills in reading, math or writing. There is no charge for the classes. Several area residents participated in a commencement ceremony for the practical nursing and surgical technology programs at Itawamba Community College at 7 p.m., July 14, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus.
