Work of 94-year-old Virginia Jackson, one of ICC's first students, currently on display in Fine Arts Center Gallery

“The Gift of Life,” a collection of paintings by 94-year-old Virginia Jackson of Tupelo, is currently on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.             The show includes Jackson’s acrylic paintings of landscapes and country scenes as well as two acrylic paintings by her granddaughter, Morgan Davis.             Jackson’s first recollection of an interest in art was when she received a box of Crayola crayons at the age of five. She recalls coloring the embossed flowers on doilies (small napkins or decorative mats), but she didn’t start painting until the age of 91 when her daughter, Jill Jackson King, bought her a set of acrylic paints. She describes herself as self-taught and paints most scenes from memory. Most of her paintings are landscape scenes of farm life and “pretty flowers,” but she experiments with abstracts, also.             She was born Virginia Anthony in 1929 in her family’s home outside of Tremont. ICC announces 75th Diamond Anniversary Gala

Itawamba Community College is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a special event planned for Oct. 14, beginning at 6 p.m. at the West Hall of the Cadence Bank Conference Center in Tupelo.             “Throughout the past 75 years, our college has grown into a thriving hub of knowledge, growth and opportunity thanks to the dedication of our exceptional faculty, staff and students,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “The impact of our collective efforts extends far beyond our walls, shaping communities and changing lives worldwide. It is fitting that we host this 75th Diamond Anniversary Gala to acknowledge with gratitude not only the milestones in our history but to celebrate the best that is yet to come.”             Proceeds from ticket sales and corporate sponsorships, which are available on multiple levels, will benefit scholarships awarded by the ICC Foundation, Inc. Registration now open for ICC Practical Nursing program

            Registration is now open for Itawamba Community College’s Practical Nursing program, which begins in January 2024.             Practical Nursing is a three-semester program. Upon completion, the graduate will receive a certificate and will be eligible to take the N-CLEX (national board exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Those who start the program in the spring are expected to graduate in December. ICC to enroll new adult education students during two Sept. 11 sessions

Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students at the Belden Center during two sessions on Sept. 11. The first, which is at 9 a.m., will be for individuals who are 18 and older; and the second, at 1 p.m., will include those who are 16-/17-years-old. Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended.             Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.             Day and evening classes are offered at ICC-Belden as well as in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties.             There is no cost for the classes.             The ESL program, Belden Center evening courses and all WIN Job Centers offer open, continuous enrollment.             GED and HiSET testing is continuing on a weekly basis, and all program-enrolled students take the GED or HiSET free of charge. ICC schedules free Red Zone Tailgate, Sept. 7

Itawamba Community College will host a free Red Zone Tailgate, Sept. 7, prior to the Indians’ home-opener football game with Jones College.             The schedule includes 4 p.m., Indian Spirit Walk (cheer the football team on their way to Lambert Stadium); 5 p.m., cookout sponsored by ICC’s Alumni and Foundation with Kids’ Zone activities; 6:30 p.m., pregame Freshman Run; and 7 p.m., kickoff at Eaton Field.             All events are free and open to the public.             For more information, contact Nina Strother, director of Marketing and Community Engagement, 662.862.8242 or njstrother@iccms.edu.

ICC schedules September pathways classes at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College has scheduled several pathways classes to begin in September at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).                 They include Food Management Certification, Sept. 11-Oct. 6, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. p.m.; Introduction to Welding and Cutting, Sept. 12-Oct. 12, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.; Small Engine Repair Technician, Sept. 12-Nov. 2, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9 p.m.; and Electrician Assistant, Sept. 12-Oct. 12, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6-9p.m.                 Food Management Certification includes the essential skills needed to thrive in the restaurant and hospitality industry. Students will experience training opportunities including ServSafe® Food Manager Certification, ServSafe® Alcohol Certification, menu planning preparation, assist/participate in execution of catered events, résumé/interview skills and front- and back-of-the-house operations.                 Introduction to Welding and Cutting is designed to give students entry-level skills and to prepare them to do basic GMAW and SMAW welding jobs that some industries and small businesses require.                 Small Engine Repair Technician enables students to prepare for a career as they develop small engine repair skills, and upon completion, they will be equipped for an entry-level technician position at an ...

ICC fall registration continues

                Registration for classes for the 2023 fall semester at Itawamba Community College is continuing.                 The last day to add traditional full-term day/night and first eight-week classes is Aug. 18; eLearning first eight-week classes, Aug. 22; and eLearning full-term classes, Aug. 25.                 Financial aid is available as well as scholarships for adult learners. Itawamba Community College receives $100,000 and joins 41 other schools across the US as All Within My Hands' Metallica Scholars Initiative expands in year five

  Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands, continues its multimillion-dollar investment in critical workforce programs at community colleges nationwide. Among the schools, Itawamba Community College was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to receive $100,000 to transform the futures of students in the community. “It is a tremendous honor for Itawamba Community College to be selected as one of the recipients of the prestigious All Within My Hands grant, which will significantly impact our career education programs, providing funding for students to pursue a pathway and their best start,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “It is another indication of the success of the College and reinforcement of the mission that students and their success are our top priority.” The Metallica Scholars Initiative (MSI) was launched in 2019 by Metallica’s foundation, All Within My Hands (AWMH), in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC).
