ICC Humanities Teacher of the Year Griffie schedules Jan. 31 presentation Judith Griffie of Amory, recipient of Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award for 2023, will present “What are you saying to yourself? Exploring self-talk and its impact on personal functioning,” at 6 p.m., Jan. 31, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus. Griffie will be honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony, Mar. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson. Griffie earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. Since the fall of 2009, she has served as a full-time psychology instructor, transitioning into that position from adjunct status which began in 2005. Previously, she was a mental health therapist with the Region III Mental Health Center initially serving children through crisis intervention and later providing mental health services to adults and the elderly. At ICC, her activities have included serving as an adviser for the Beta Tau Sigma Chapter (Tupelo Campus) of Phi Theta Kappa, for which she received the Regional Hallmark Paragon Award in 2012. Pathways classes to begin soon at ICC-Belden Registration is underway for several pathways classes that will begin soon at Itawamba Community College. They include Residential Wiring, Small Engine Repair Technician and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. Residential Wiring meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Mar. 9. In the hands-on class, participants will learn how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between different types of switches; switch replacement; locate loose or bad connections; and troubleshooting techniques. It is designed for those who are interested in becoming an electrician’s assistant or want to learn to do very basic electrical wiring for their own use. Small Engine Repair Technician meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Feb. 7-Apr. 6. Upon successful completion of the 16-session program, students will be prepared for an entry-level technician position at an existing small engine repair shop or to open their own related business. Successful students will receive information about how to test for the nationally-recognized technician certification examination. ICC to host Meet the Indians, Jan. 18 Members of Itawamba Community College’s spring athletic teams will be introduced at a special Meet the Indians event at 6 p.m., Jan. 18, at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. ICC sets Apr. 1 deadline for four alumni honors Nominations are being accepted through Apr. 1 for Itawamba Community College’s 2023 Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame, ICC Distinguished Service Award and Young Alumnus of the Year. Those selected will be honored during homecoming activities this fall at the Fulton Campus. Criteria for selection for Alumnus of the Year include successful completion of at least one semester as a full-time student at ICC five years prior to the current year as well as merit and achievement which have brought fame and honor to either his/her community or ICC. ICC’s Athletic Hall of Fame honors former athletes, coaches or individuals who have excelled or made major contributions to intercollegiate athletics while attending or employed by ICC. They must have been out of school at least 10 years. Accomplishments and support of ICC also may be considered. Spring semester registration continues through Jan. 13 Registration for the 2023 spring semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Jan. 13 for traditional full-term day and night classes in the Advising Centers on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., weekdays, in the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus and Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus. Traditional full-term day and first eight-week classes begin Jan. 9; and eLearning full-term and first eight-week classes, Jan. 17. The last day to add eLearning first eight-week classes is Jan. 18, and eLearning full-term classes, Jan. 20. Financial aid is available as well as adult learner scholarships. Academic, career education, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. ICC schedules January adult orientation, class meetings Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) with a three-day orientation session, January 11, 12 and 13. The orientation will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended.
