Daniels, Allen elected 2022-23 Mr., Miss Itawamba Community College Tykez Daniels of Starkville and Emma Grace Allen of Fulton have been elected Mr. and Miss Itawamba Community College for 2022-23 Daniels’ activities are Indian Delegate, 2022 Orientation Leader, SGA Representative, Social Media Ambassador, All-American Marching Band, Fashion Tribe Executive, Food Pantry committee, Student Activities Board president and Student Activities student worker. He attends Second Chance Ministries. A communication major, Daniels is the son of Ebony Evans. At ICC, Allen’s activities have included Indian Delegation president, Orientation Leader, Food Pantry representative, Resident Assistant and a member of the Baptist Student Union Leadership Team, The Global Experience, Fashion Tribe, STEM Club, The Wesley Foundation, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors College, Science Club and Wesley Foundation. Among her honors are Dean’s List, Freshman and Sophomore Homecoming Maid and first runner-up in ICC’s Most Beautiful Pageant. A pre-med (biology) major, Allen is also involved in college ministry and youth group at Bethel Baptist Church. She is the daughter of Dr. Jay and Belinda Allen. Location changes for Fulton adult education classes Beginning Feb. 13, the location for Itawamba Community College’s adult education classes has been changed to room 202 of the Crubaugh Technical Education Building at the Fulton Campus. Classes meet from 3:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays. Enrollment for new students is on the first and third Mondays of each month. The free classes offer students an opportunity to complete a high school diploma, including GED and HiSET exam, ACT and WorkKeys preparation and score improvement. Work-readiness, reading, math and writing refresher skills are also offered to individuals seeking to improve their employability or educational skills. ICC gallery features work by Victoria Cummings-Bobo New works by artist Victoria Cummings-Bobo of Evergreen are currently on display in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The exhibition titled “Eshe (Eh-Sheh) = Life: An Abstract Metal Frame of Mind” features a collection of acrylic and mixed media pieces to commemorate Black History Month and will be on display until Mar. 9. Bobo’s work uses household items or something nature provides to tell colorful and vibrant stories. Her work ranges from miniature models, which reflect everyday people to vibrant paintings and statuesque colorful objects. She combines her art and her faith by using adorned mannequins to teach Sunday School classes at New Temple Baptist Church. Bobo’s love of the arts has included poetry, acting and playing the piano. After a time in New York City, she returned to Dorsey in 1987, and in 1988, Bobo and her sister, Dr. Ormella Cummings, formed We Amend Minds-By-Action, an organization devoted to introducing cultural activities and enrichment programs to young people and adults in Itawamba County and the surrounding area. ICC selects Most Beautiful, alternates at Feb. 1 pageant Rylie Ozbirn of New Albany was selected as Itawamba Community College’s Most Beautiful 2023-24 at the conclusion of the annual pageant, which was Feb. 1 at the Fulton Campus. Winners include Sharicka Martin of Shannon, Most Photogenic; Sarah Kate Thompson of Potts Camp, fourth alternate; Alexis “Lexi” Tabbs of Red Bay, Ala., second alternate; Emma Grace Allen of Fulton, first alternate; Mary Morgan Lyle of Tupelo, third alternate; and Kaitlyn Plunkett of Fulton, Crowd Favorite. ICC celebrates STEM week with proclamation signing Itawamba Community College President Dr. Jay Allen signed a proclamation designating Feb. 6-10 as STEM Week. The event signals the start of an amplified focus on the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at ICC, which is offering an innovative way for involvement and exploration of those areas with the creation of a STEM Club as well as a new course, Introduction to STEM Professions. ICC Food Service Pathway class to begin Feb. 15 at Belden Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Feb. 15. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Mar. 22. ICC's Health Sciences Division to host Code Blue and Red event for students from 12 area schools Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 8:30 a.m.-noon, Feb. 10, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Students from 12 area schools will be on campus in two shifts (8:30 and 10:15 a.m.) to view simulations of three real-life scenarios, said Michael Holloway, director of recruitment and orientation. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said, “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Emergency Medical Sciences, Health Information, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Practical Nursing, Public Health, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology.
