ICC accepting nominations for Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees Nominations are being accepted for the 2022 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees at Itawamba Community College through Aug. 1. Those selected will be honored during homecoming activities this fall at the Fulton Campus. Criteria for selection for Alumnus of the Year include successful completion of at least one semester as a full-time student at ICC five years prior to the current year as well as merit and achievement which have brought fame and honor to either his/her community or ICC. ICC’s Athletic Hall of Fame honors former athletes, coaches or individuals who have excelled or those who have made major contributions to intercollegiate athletics while attending or employed by ICC. ICC to formally open Magnolia Hall, July 14, 10 a.m. Itawamba Community College will formally open its new residential facility, Magnolia Hall, following a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., July 14, at the entrance facing Main Street in Fulton. The 72,000-square-foot three-story residence hall has 246 beds, customizable halls/wings for separated male and female occupancy and two efficiency apartments as well as one for the hall director. The facility features common collaborative study areas, and some have televisions that can be mirrored to student computers. The building is also outfitted with the latest controls for both HVAC and lighting and with a new access control system that allows entry via their student ID card to their hall door, wing and room. Requirements for residence include a preferred ACT score of 24, maintaining a 3.0 GPA and active in ICC student involvement/leadership opportunities. ICC's Patterson selected state MAACE Administrator of Year Linzy Patterson of Amory, director of adult education at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as the recipient of the 2021-22 Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education Administrator of the Year award. In January 2018, Patterson joined ICC’s Adult Education department as an instructor at the Amory WIN Center, and in 2019-20, he was transferred to the Belden Center to serve as lead instructor. During this time, he was a member of the state SmartStart professional development committee as well as the TABE Frequently Asked Questions Manual committee. In August 2021, he was promoted to ICC’s director of adult education. Patterson began his professional career with the Amory School District in 2010, serving as a special education instructor along with assistant football, soccer and tennis coach. He was selected as Teacher of the Year for the 2014-15 school year. Registration continues for ICC July orientation sessions It is not too late to register for July orientation sessions that are scheduled for both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College. They include July 19 at 1 p.m. and July 21 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fulton Campus and July 21 at 5 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions; however, they can attend regardless of the location where they plan to enroll in classes. All students, including adult learners, are invited. Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. ICC to offer Basic PLC - 5/500/Micrologix class at Belden Center Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a Basic PLC – 5/500/Micrologix class that is scheduled for July 11-14 from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The class is an overview of the application functions of the Allen-Bradley PLC5/500/Micrologix family of programmable controllers and the programming methods using RSLogix 500 programming software. ICC's McCraw, Waters complete Mississippi Community College Fellowship Program Itawamba Community College’s Dr. Brandi McCraw of Fulton, Instructional Coordinator, and TZ Waters of Tupelo, director of Workforce Education, have completed the Mississippi Community College Fellowship Program. In addition, McCraw was selected as the recipient of the Mississippi CPFP 2020-21 Cohort Outstanding Fellow Award, which recognizes those who have displayed distinctive leadership and meritorious service to their profession through participation in the CPFP program. They were selected by their peers. The CPFP program is designed to give Fellows first-hand high-level experience with the workings of the Federal government and to increase their sense of participation in national affairs, according to Tyson Elbert, founder and executive director of AdvocacyBuild, LLC and senior fellow of The Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute, who presented the awards. It requires Fellows to dedicate time away from their professional responsibilities, but also from their families, communities and social commitments.
