ICC student artwork featured in exhibit in newly-renovated W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center

The artwork of several Itawamba Community College students is currently on display in the newly-renovated W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus.             The first student exhibition in the new space, which consists of approximately 80 pieces of art including drawing, painting, computer art and sculpture, will be on display until May 5.             Artists include Taylor Braxton of Amory; Jamecia Walker of Baldwyn; Bayleigh Caldwell of Caledonia; McKenna Powell of Hatley; Alli Blansett, Makenzie Brooks, both of Houston; Olivia Jones of Mantachie; Francisco Garcia of Mooreville; Mia Coggin of Nettleton; Michaela Pearson, Rachel Gann, Kaitlin Stegall, Brianna Hall, Maria Tinajero, all of Pontotoc; Lily Wright of Red Bay, Ala.; Jaiden Hutson, Danielle Thompson, Elliana Parker, all of Saltillo; KaJatlon Clark of Shannon; Selena Crowley of Tremont; Ana Chambers, Drew Edmonson, Camille Campbell and Brianna Dent, all of Tupelo.             Normal gallery hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.             For more information, email Shawn Whittington at eswhittington@iccms.edu or call (662) 862-8301.

ICC schedules auditions for Choir, CenterStage

Auditions for Itawamba Community College’s Choir and CenterStage are scheduled for noon-3 p.m., Apr. 22, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center complex on the Fulton Campus.             Additional times include CenterStage band, 1 p.m.; and CenterStage dancers, 3-4 p.m. Those interested in the CenterStage crew can interview the first week of classes in August.             CenterStage, which is ICC’s pop show group featuring vocals, choreography and a live band, represents the college at numerous public functions and assists in recruiting in area high schools. ICC Enhanced Forklift Training class to begin May 5

            Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for an Enhanced Forklift Operator Training class that is scheduled for May 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.             The class will enable individuals to receive hands-on training on three different classifications of forklifts: Standup Rider (Class 1), Order Selector (Class 2) and LP Gas Powered Sit-Down Forklift (Class 4).             Topics include the requirements of the OSHA Powered Industrial Truck Regulation 29 CFR 1910.178, safe-powered industrial truck operation and how forklifts work, identification of operating hazards as well as the general principles of safe operation and how to properly inspect and maintain a forklift.             Cost is $85.             To register or for more information, contact Becky Kelly at (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.

Students place in ICC 2022 Creative Writing competition

            Several Itawamba Community College students were among those whose work was selected as winners in the 2022 Creative Writing competition.             They include             Aberdeen – Connor Monaghan, first place in poetry for ‘Static Ambiance;’ third place in fiction for ‘Be No Evil;’ third place in drama for ‘TO CAPTURE A HEART;” third place in essay for ‘Mother Nature and the Father;’ third place in nonfiction for ‘Trauma;’             Amory – Jack May, first place in essay for ‘The Dastardly Villagers;’             Ecru – Shelby Tutor, second place in nonfiction for ‘No One’s Gonna Love Us;’             Fulton – Brandon Harris, honorable mention in drama for ‘ELIZABETH WINTRY’ and ‘HAPPY HAPPY FUNNY FUNNY BURGER;’             Guntown – Brody Johnson, first place in drama for ‘Apex;’             Mantachie – Emory Reinhard, third place in poetry for ‘Tend To Your Garden;’             Plantersville – Ally Melendez, first place in fiction for ‘Always Watching;’ Chloe Evans, second place in fiction for ‘One Brave Bug;’ Lana Dozier, honorable mention in drama for ‘TORN;’             Pontotoc – Anna Gregory, second place in poetry for ‘Sense Me;’             ...

ICC to celebrate Week of the Arts, formally reopen W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center

Itawamba Community College will celebrate the Week of the Arts, Apr. 19-22, with several special events at the Fulton Campus, including a ribbon cutting and formal reopening of the newly-renovated W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium.             They first event will be a CenterStage concert, Apr. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Band Hall. The remaining activities, which will be at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium, are the ribbon cutting and open house, Apr. 20, 10 a.m.-noon; Fashion Show, Apr. 20, 6 p.m.; Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble concert, Apr. 21, 6:30 p.m.; and Choir and Chamber Choir concert, Apr. 22, 7 p.m.                   Renovations began in the fall of 2021 to restore the decades-old 24,000-square-foot facility, which had not received any major renovations since it was built in 1978. With upgrades to almost every inch of the facility, the state-of-the-art auditorium, lecture space, exhibit hall and lobby now boast modern designs that will be more inviting to all guests. The renovations were designed by McCarty Architects.             The public is invited to all events.

ICC spring choral concert set for Apr. 22

           Itawamba Community College will present its spring choral concert at 7 p.m., Apr. 22, at the W.O. ICC Fashion Tribe schedules spring show, Apr. 20

           Itawamba Community College’s Fashion Tribe will present a spring show during Celebration of the Arts Week, Apr. 20, at 6 p.m. in the W.O. Itawamba Community College’s CenterStage, contemporary music group, has scheduled its spring show, “Criminals, Villians & Renegades,” Apr. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Band Hall on the Fulton Campus.
