ICC's Baggett, Evans selected as finalists for prestigious transfer scholarship Itawamba Community College sophomores TayaRenea Leigh Baggett of Hamilton and Chloe Evans of Plantersville have been selected as semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship. Baggett is majoring in music education with emphasis on trumpet. Her activities and honors include Phi Theta Kappa, choir, chamber choir, brass ensemble, band, Honors College, President’s List, recipient of the Dean’s and Linda Kay Gilreath Endowed Scholarships and former member of CenterStage. She is a member of St. James Catholic Church where she is in the choir. Baggett’s parents are Christie and Joseph Hesse. ICC to present "Charlotte's Web" The Itawamba Community College Theatre Department will present the classic “Charlotte’s Web,” Mar. 31 and Apr. 1 at 4 p.m. and Apr. 2 at 2 p.m. at the Cypress Pavilion at the Fulton Campus. ICC exhibition features work of alumnus Bryce Camp The Itawamba Community College Fine Arts Department is sponsoring an exhibition of photographs by Amory resident Bryce Camp, who is a recent graduate of Mississippi State University and an ICC alumnus. He discovered his passion for art after having taken a class in Art Appreciation at ICC, and it was while transferring to Mississippi State that he declared himself an art major specializing in photography. Of his work he says, “My current series of photographs of roadside memorials show the beauty that can arise amidst the tragedy of death and loss. Accidents happen every day, but people can transform that grief into something beautiful and constructive. The memorials pictured in my series are all from the North Mississippi area. They were spread out across our corner of the state, but they all represent the same thing. These memorials are not simply crosses or balloons on the side of the road; they represent a lifetime to someone, the route they may have traveled to work or home, the laughter and the tears, and to some, an ease of pain.” His ... ICC to host Code Blue and Red event, Mar. 11 Itawamba Community College’s Health Sciences Division will host a Code Blue and Red event from 8:45 a.m.-noon, March 11, in the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. Fifty-six students from Itawamba and Lee Counties Career and Technical Centers and Mooreville and North Pontotoc High Schools will be on campus to view this simulation of three scenarios: a COVID patient, labor and delivery and a trauma accident, which will showcase seven health science programs, said Michael Holloway, recruitment coordinator and adviser. A North Mississippi Medical Center ambulance will arrive, and the students will see first-hand the need for and the role healthcare professionals play in the process. “It will be an impactful program,” Holloway said, “Our hope is that these students see the ‘real-life’ expertise used by the graduates of ICC’s programs.” Participating programs include students and faculty from Associate Degree Nursing, Occupational and Physical Therapy Assistant, Paramedic, Respiratory Care, Radiologic Technology and Surgical Technology. ICC's Morris schedules humanities presentation for Mar. 28 Keith Morris of Tupelo, recipient of Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award for 2022, will present “Little Boxes: The Importance of Purpose” at 6 p.m., Mar. 28, at the Health Science Education Center at the Tupelo Campus. “I’ve come to think of my writing as little boxes, idea containers,” Morris said. “My purpose for writing has changed since I first started. As my purpose has changed, so has the care with which I build and fill the little boxes.” Morris earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and master’s degree from Mississippi State University. Since 2008, he has served as an English instructor at ICC, where he has co-created World Literature I and Drama Production IV and created Writing for Publication. ICC's Howard to receive PTK Paragon award Bradley Howard of Saltillo, Computer Science Division chair at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a recipient of Phi Theta Kappa’s 2022 Paragon Award for New Advisers. He will be among those recognized during PTK Catalyst 2022, the society’s annual convention in Denver, Colo., Apr. 7-9. Howard, who has been employed at ICC since 2006, is sponsor for the STEM and Computer clubs and eLearning lead instructor for computer science. His committee service includes College Council, Commencement, Curriculum, eLearning, Honors Council, Instructional Policies and Planning and Assessment. Howard’s honors include Lamplighter award recipient and sponsor for ICC’s first Top 10 finalist team for the American Association of Community Colleges and National Science Foundation’s 2021 Community College Innovation Challenge. ICC to 'Reach Out' to students, faculty during mental health awareness event Itawamba Community College will Reach Out to both students and faculty/staff next week (Mar. 7-10) to provide support and assistance in the areas covered by mental health. “While we continue to navigate unprecedented times in our world, we recognize that young adults are experiencing much higher levels of stress and are also reporting much higher rates of mental health challenges in recent years,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “With a nationwide awareness of the challenges that students face, especially resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, including social isolation and rapid transition to remote learning, ICC is actively working to accelerate student and employee assistance in mental health. That support will be in addition to our already active counseling services,” Allen said. Clippard, Richardson receive PTK/Walgreens scholarship Itawamba Community College Pharmacy Technician program graduates Amber Clippard and Kristian Richardson, both of Nettleton, are the recipients of a $250 scholarship to cover the cost of the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam fee from Walgreens and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Certification Scholarship recognizes students who are enrolled in Allied Health or Pharmacy Technician programs and intend to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam. Clippard and Richardson are among only 25 students selected to receive the award. Clippard’s honors and memberships have included Health Occupation Students Association and the National Technical Honor Society. She is married to Dustin Clippard. ICC schedules Spring Preview Day, Mar. 25 High school juniors will have an opportunity to learn about student life at Itawamba Community College during Spring Preview Day, Mar. 25, from 9 a.m.-noon at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus. The schedule includes arrival and check-in, 8:15-8:50 a.m.; welcome, 9 a.m.; preview expo, 9:15 a.m.; and optional lunch at the dining hall, noon. A campus tour is optional. The Spring Preview Day will include information about ICC’s academic, health science and career education programs, and participants can interact directly with faculty within the areas. The preview expo will enable prospective students to visit with programs, offices, departments and student organizations to learn more about academic and student involvement opportunities.
