Registration continues for ICC July orientation sessions

It is not too late to register for July orientation sessions that are scheduled for both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.           They include July 19 at 1 p.m. and July 21 at 8:30 a.m. at the Fulton Campus and July 21 at 5 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus.           Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions; however, they can attend regardless of the location where they plan to enroll in classes. All students, including adult learners, are invited.           Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC. ICC to offer Basic PLC - 5/500/Micrologix class at Belden Center

           Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a Basic PLC – 5/500/Micrologix class that is scheduled for July 11-14 from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m.             The class is an overview of the application functions of the Allen-Bradley PLC5/500/Micrologix family of programmable controllers and the programming methods using RSLogix 500 programming software. Ladder-logic programming, documenting and online monitoring will be explained. ICC's McCraw, Waters complete Mississippi Community College Fellowship Program

Itawamba Community College’s Dr. Brandi McCraw of Fulton, Instructional Coordinator, and TZ Waters of Tupelo, director of Workforce Education, have completed the Mississippi Community College Fellowship Program.             In addition, McCraw was selected as the recipient of the Mississippi CPFP 2020-21 Cohort Outstanding Fellow Award, which recognizes those who have displayed distinctive leadership and meritorious service to their profession through participation in the CPFP program. They were selected by their peers.             The CPFP program is designed to give Fellows first-hand high-level experience with the workings of the Federal government and to increase their sense of participation in national affairs, according to Tyson Elbert, founder and executive director of AdvocacyBuild, LLC and senior fellow of The Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute, who presented the awards. It requires Fellows to dedicate time away from their professional responsibilities, but also from their families, communities and social commitments.             McCraw, who has been at ICC since 2008, has also served as switchboard operator, Student Services receptionist, administrative assistant to the dean of eLearning Instruction, eLearning adviser and eLearning coordinator. Registration continues for ICC orientation sessions

            Registration is continuing at Itawamba Community College for orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2022 fall semester.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for June 8 and 9 and July 19, all at 1 p.m. and July 21 at 8:30 a.m., all at the Fulton Campus; and June 21 at 1 p.m. and June 23 and July 21 at 5 p.m., all at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. More than 600 graduates participate in 2022 ICC commencement ceremonies

            More than 600 graduates of Itawamba Community College crossed the stage at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus May 13 during three commencement ceremonies and were rewarded with Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degrees or certificates.             They were among more than 1,000 graduates who have earned degrees from ICC this year, including Kelly Jo Ashley of New Albany, who participated during the 5 p.m. health sciences ceremony. Ashley, who was a certified elementary teacher for 11 years, began the Associate Degree Nursing program during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. “None of us knew what to expect,” she said. “However, as I reflect on the past two years at ICC, I am beyond thankful to the faculty, staff and all other support personnel who not only made this journey possible, but who helped us to grow and learn as future nurses and people. ICC's Haley Dean receives TVA STEM Scholarship

Haley Dean of Saltillo, recent graduate of Itawamba Community College, is the recipient of one of two STEM scholarships from the Tennessee Valley Authority and Phi Theta Kappa, a $2,250 award.             This scholarship is awarded to Phi Theta Kappa members in Mississippi who plan to enter the fields of science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). The students were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, campus and community service and faculty assessments.             “We are very grateful to TVA for recognizing the academic achievements of our STEM members and providing them with mentoring that will further enrich their lives,” said Dr. Monica Marlowe, executive director of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation. “We are excited to see the impact this program will have on enabling students to pursue their careers in STEM fields.”             Dean majored in mechanical engineering at ICC, where she was the vice president of scholarship for the Phi Theta Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter; member of the Honors College, Baptist Student Union, Science Club and Indian Delegation; president of the Student Government Association and a previous Orientation Leader.
