ICC hosts Emerging Scholars Luncheon to honor exceptional high school seniors High school seniors with a 24+ ACT score will be honored during an Emerging Scholars Luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m., Nov. 17, at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. “The event is an opportunity for the select group of high school seniors to learn more about the academic and involvement opportunities for honor students at ICC,” said Jake Hartfield, director of recruitment and orientation. The schedule includes check in from 10:45-11 a.m. followed by lunch and sessions focusing on opportunities for scholars, Q & A student leader panel and an overview of Phi Theta Kappa and Honors College. ICC responds to State Auditor's claims Itawamba Community College has issued a statement in response to allegations made this week by State Auditor agents about illegal activity regarding workforce training by the institution or its current or former employees. According to the statement, “For over two years, Itawamba Community College has fully cooperated with and been incredibly responsive to the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office in its investigation. In addition, the College hired a former United States Attorney and a well-respected, regional law firm to conduct an internal investigation into allegations made by State Auditor agents. “Based upon that internal investigation, the College strongly denies any and all allegations of illegal activity by the institution or its current or former employees. ICC to host free MiBEST information session, Oct. 19, at Belden Center Itawamba Community College will host an information session on how individuals can earn college credits and certification in HVAC, welding/cutting or Certified Nursing Assistant while working on their high school equivalency credentials at 2 p.m., Oct. 19, at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). The free event is part of a commemoration of MiBEST Week, which is Oct. 18-23. The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program is a workforce and economic development initiative that moves low-skilled, noncredentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages, according to Linzy Patterson, ICC director of adult education. Kellogg Foundation grant provides opportunity for returning to college Students who left college at least two years ago without a degree can apply for a grant to help overcome financial barriers that may keep them from returning to college to complete the requirements for their degrees. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation recently awarded the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning $1.3 million to fund Mississippi’s Complete 2 Compete Tuition Assistance Grant through 2023. Funds can be used at any of the public universities or community colleges in Mississippi. The Complete 2 Compete program provides one-on-one support for adult learners who have earned college credits, but not a degree, and enables them to turn their deferred dreams of earning a degree into reality. Qualifying returning students will receive a $1,000 grant that can be renewed every semester. The award helps pay for any coursework needed to graduate and can help repay prior debt to allow students the opportunity to return and graduate. ICC's Public Health Technology ranked fifth in the nation Itawamba Community College has been named one of 2021’s best schools for online programs and courses in healthcare education by EduMed.org. ICC’s Public Health Technology program is ranked fifth in the nation. “Itawamba Community College appreciates this ranking and recognition by EduMed.org,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “It is validation that ICC provides flexible, affordable and student-centered programs. Our students are our top priority, and their success is our success.” Only eight percent of U.S. postsecondary institutions earned a ranking position, according to EduMed.org, which researched and analyzed more than 7,700 accredited schools using data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and from the schools themselves. ICC STEM project receives MentorLink grant Itawamba Community College has been selected as one of the winning colleges in the American Association of Community College’s MentorLinks: Advancing Technological Education program.
