ICC sets 2022 spring open registration Itawamba Community College has scheduled open registration for the 2022 spring semester. Options include Jan. 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the Fulton Campus and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. on the Tupelo Campus; Jan. 6 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the Fulton Campus and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on the Tupelo Campus; and Jan. 7 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Locations are the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus and the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus. Traditional full-term day and first eight-week classes begin Jan. 10; and eLearning full-term and first eight-week classes, Jan. 18. Recent high school graduates are encouraged to participate in the Jan. 5 orientation session by registering at iccms.edu/orientation. Financial aid is available, as well as adult learner scholarships. ICC schedules 2022 Preparing for the ACT sessions The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled several sessions for Preparing for the ACT. All meet on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center. Math and science sessions include Jan. 29, Apr. 2 and May 21. English and reading are offered Jan. 22, Mar. 26 and June 4. ICC’s ACT prep instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods: review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for “’studying smart” that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests are administered to measure performance. Extensive handouts are provided for skill practice. The cost is $50 per session. Preregistration is required. Morris selected as ICC's Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee Keith Morris of Tupelo has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s Mississippi Humanities Teacher Award nominee for 2022. He will present “Little Boxes” at 6 p.m., Mar. 28, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Morris will be honored at the Mississippi Humanities Council Awards Ceremony Mar. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Old Capitol Museum in Jackson. “I teach alongside such talented, hardworking folks,” Morris said. “I feel honored to receive this award, not just for myself, but as a simple representative of my team.” Morris earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi and master’s degree from Mississippi State University. Since 2008, he has served as an English instructor at ICC, where he has co-created World Literature I and Drama Production IV and created Writing for Publication. ICC's MiBEST program to offer 11 additional pathway options beginning in January Beginning in January 2022, participants in Itawamba Community College’s MiBEST program will have 11 additional pathway options. Currently, students can choose from Heating and Air Conditioning Technology, Certified Nursing Assistant and Welding and Cutting, according to Linzy Patterson, director of Adult Education at ICC. Additional programs will include Automotive Technology, Business Office Specialist, Commercial Truck Driving, Diesel Equipment Technology, Electrician Assistant, Food Service Pathway, Hospitality Management Technology, Manufacturing Basic Skills, Pharmacy Tech, Phlebotomy and Introduction to Welding and Cutting. The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program is a workforce and economic development initiative that transitions low-skilled, non-credentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages, according to Patterson. The program is intended for individuals who did not earn a traditional high school diploma, those in low-wage jobs or other nontraditional students.
