ICC updates operational plan for fall 2021 Itawamba Community College will welcome thousands of students, Aug. 16, with an updated operational plan. “For months, we have planned to resume ‘normal operations’ this fall, but there is significant concern regarding the current wave of the pandemic, which is especially affecting the younger segment of our population,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen in an email to the staff. “Many efforts were made over the summer to assist with the full transition; however, as I have continually stated since March 2020, the safety of our employees and students is of utmost importance.” Effective Aug. 9, the plan, which is level two of a four-level plan, will require face coverings in all buildings at all three ICC locations; physical distancing in full-capacity classes; enhanced cleaning protocols; continuation of hand sanitizing stations; continuation of the Safely together course for all employees and students; class testing and proctoring adjustments; plexiglass dividers between computer testing stations, labs and customer service areas and some limitations on capacity at indoor events and activities. “We believe that this mask mandate will be temporary, but ICC will continue to ... Adult education classes beginning in ICC's five-county district Adult education classes are beginning at several locations in the Itawamba Community College five-county district. The schedule includes Chickasaw County – Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., WIN Job Center (210 South Monroe St., Houston); Itawamba County – Monday and Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., Old Grammar School (603 South Cummings St. Fulton); Lee County – Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road, Belden); Monroe County – Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., WIN Job Center, (1619 Highway 25 No., Amory); and Pontotoc County – Monday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., WIN Job Center (316 Coffee St., Pontotoc). Registration continues for ICC's Gateway program Registration is continuing for the Gateway program at Itawamba Community College. The program is designed for individuals who are between the ages of 16-24, do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent, want career coaching and are serious about exploring employment opportunities. In addition, those who have a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma may qualify if they have another type of barrier, including but not limited to, single parent, low income, disabilities and homeless. Enrollments are currently being accepted for participants in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe and Pontotoc counties. Open enrollment for classes in the one-week program begins Mondays at 9 a.m. at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). ICC's Allen named to prestigious AACC Board Itawamba Community College President Dr. Jay Allen has been named to the American Association of Community College Board of Directors for a three-year term. He is one of two Mississippi community college presidents serving on the prestigious board, which acts on behalf of the institutional members to create and maintain a vision for AACC, provide a national voice and advocacy for the community college mission and to determine and ensure that the organization adheres to appropriate standards of performance. A total of 32 presidents serve on the Board. Allen is an affiliate council representative and board member for the Community Colleges of Appalachia, which serves the common interests of colleges and their communities through programs and services responsive to the unique cultural, geographic and economic development challenges facing the region. Record number of ICC students selected Leaders of Promise Scholars Four Itawamba Community College students have been selected among 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named 2021 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. They include Harley Boone of Guntown, Kaleb Ward of Mooreville, Chloe Evans of Nettleton and Haley Dean of Saltillo. “Itawamba Community College is extremely proud of these scholars who have attained this significant honor,” said Robin Lowe, Phi Theta Kappa contact adviser. “The selection of four students is a record number for ICC, and it definitely is a reflection of the extraordinary students we have.” The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new Phi Theta Kappa members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Adult learners have opportunity to take advantage of C2C program at ICC Adult learners who haven’t completed work for a college degree can return to Itawamba Community College this fall and possibly take advantage of the Complete 2 Compete program. An initiative of the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning and the Mississippi Community College Board, Complete 2 Compete concentrates on removing barriers that keep adult learners from returning to complete their degrees. Since its inception in 2017, the program assisted more than 2,100 former students in returning to complete their degrees, and more than 4,000 former students, who had not been enrolled in classes for more than two years, were enrolled on a fast path to degree completion. To date, 91 associate’s degrees have been awarded by Itawamba Community College through the C2C program, said Dr. Emily Tucker, ICC recruitment coordinator and adviser and liaison for the C2C program. Options include Aug. 11 from 4-7 p.m., Aug. 12 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and Aug. 13 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus; and Aug. 12 and 13 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the David C.
