Delta Health Alliance mobile unit to be at ICC-Fulton Thursday; those vaccinated or taking the shot during the event qualify for ICC scholarship drawing The Delta Health Alliance mobile unit will be on the Fulton Campus of Itawamba Community College at the entrance to Lambert Stadium from 3-7:30 p.m., Thursday (Sept. 16), to offer COVID-19 vaccinations. Participants will join those who have been vaccinated in an opportunity to be entered into a drawing for a $1,000 scholarship to ICC. Those who have received at least one shot should bring their vaccination cards to enter the drawing, which will be at halftime of the ICC-Coahoma game, which begins at 6:30 p.m., according to Tyler Camp, chief of staff and special assistant to the president. Registration underway at ICC for Basic Construction, HR Assistant pathways Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for two Pathway programs that are scheduled to begin in October at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). They are Basic Construction and Human Resource Assistant. Basic Construction, which will meet Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. from Oct. 18-29, includes construction math, power and hand tools, construction site safety, construction drawings, employability, communication skills and introduction to material handling. The Pathway to Employment in Construction program is a nationally-recognized certification for Construction Core designed by the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Successful participants who pass the examination will be eligible for entry-level construction jobs. Human Resource Assistant will meet Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., Oct. 7-Nov. 4. ICC ranks second in state in producing more bachelor's degrees than any other community college Recent data from Mississippi’s Institutions of Higher Learning shows students who graduate from Itawamba Community College and transfer to a university receive their degree with a grade point average above the state average. In addition, ICC graduates earn their college credentials with a higher GPA than students who begin their university studies during their freshman year. The statistics also indicate that ICC ranks second in the state in producing more bachelor’s degrees than any other community college, 12 short of first place, which is held by an institution that doubles our enrollment, said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. Students who began their college careers at ICC and transferred to a university graduated from there with an average GPA of 3.28. The average among all IHL graduates is 3.23. ICC seeking participants for Community Tailgate Itawamba Community College is seeking participants for its 2021 Community Tailgate, Oct. 14, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in front of Butch Lambert Stadium at the Fulton Campus. Businesses, alumni, teams, families, offices, both community and student groups and organizations are invited to participate in the free opportunity, according to Nina Strother, director of marketing and community engagement at ICC. The tailgates and food will be separate competitions, Strother said. Tailgate booths will be judged on atmosphere, creativity and spirit. They have the opportunity to participate in the cook off or as a booth. The cook off will be divided into sweet and savory categories. ICC to celebrate Adult Education, Family Literacy Week, Sept. 19-25 Itawamba Community College will join educational institutions throughout the United States in celebration of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Sept. 19-25. “The goal of National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week is to work side-by-side in every state, territory and district to heighten public awareness, strengthen alliances, leverage resources and increase the number of people who understand the vital role adult education and family literacy play in our nation’s well-being,” said Linzy Patterson, director of adult education at ICC. According to ProLiteracy, more than 43 million adults in the United States cannot read, write or do basic math above a third grade level. ICC to honor Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame Sept. 23 Itawamba Community College will honor its 2021 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during Homecoming activities, Sept. 23, at the Fulton Campus. They include Karen Camp McFerrin of Mantachie, Alumnus of the Year; and Cameron “CeCee” Austin Cavanaugh of Pontotoc and Jeff Tally of Saltillo, Athletic Hall of Fame. From 1968-70, McFerrin attended ICC, where she earned the associate’s degree. She was a Wesley Foundation officer, Drum Major, vice president of the Home Economics Club and charter member of Phi Theta Kappa, Hall of Fame, IJC Beauty and Dean’s List Scholar. She continued her education at the University of Mississippi, where she earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in home economics. She began her career working for the Mississippi Extension Service in Tylertown before returning home to accept a position at ICC, where she served as a recruiter, teacher and adviser.
