Also among the graduates were 10 Middle College participants from Tupelo High School, who were part of a first-of-its-kind pilot program in North Mississippi, which began in August 2019. The THS juniors attended classes at the ICC Tupelo Campus for the majority of the school day, while taking class at THS to pursue either an Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degree. “Community colleges, such as ICC, are on the front line of helping people reach their potential: academically, personally and professionally,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “And when we succeed and do our best in connecting with students, we ... According to Barry Emison, ICC’s dean of Career and Technical Instruction, the funds will be used for student aid and certifications. “We appreciate very much the investment by the Haas Foundation in ICC’s Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology program,” Emison said. “Not only is it an investment in the program, but it is an investment in the futures of our students.” In 1999, Gene Haas formed the foundation which bears his name because he grew up with a strong social conscience instilled by his family. It was initially designed to fund the needs of the local community. Haas Automation is now a billion dollar company. The focus of the foundation has shifted to the current outreach and methodology. IHL/MCCB relaunch Complete 2 Compete program; significant benefit to ICC students In 2017, the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning and the Mississippi Community College Board launched the Complete 2 Compete program focused on increasing the degree attainment rate in Mississippi. As at Itawamba Community College, the initiative concentrated on removing barriers that keep adult learners from returning to complete their degrees. Within a year, a new university degree program and renewable C2C Grant were established to facilitate adult learners returning to complete their degree. Mississippi’s public community colleges and universities expanded the number of online classes, and many developed student services tailored to provide working adults with greater access. Additionally, teams of coaches were commissioned across all of the institutions providing greater coordination, streamlining the review of transcripts and maximizing application of earned credits. In just over two years, the program assisted more than 2,100 former students in returning to complete their degrees. In addition, more than 4,000 former students, who had not been enrolled in classes for more than two years, were enrolled on a fast path to degree completion. In October 2020, complicated ...
