ICC sets fall choral concert, Nov. 18

ICC schedules Food Service Pathway class beginning Nov. 8

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Nov. 8.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Dec. 10.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. CenterStage schedules Nov. 16 concert

ICC spring dance line auditions set for Nov. 3

Auditions for Itawamba Community College’s spring dance line are scheduled for 2:30-5 p.m., Nov. 3, in the band hall at the Fulton Campus.             Requirements include learning a 30-second dance and performing for judges and both single turn and split leap on the right. Extra credit will be awarded for double turn, open leap (second position leap) and second position turn (á la seconde).             A technique training will be from 2:30-4 p.m., Nov. 1, at the ICC band hall, but this class is not required for audition.             For more information, contact Mandy Eaton, dance coach, at abeaton@iccms.edu.

ICC offers FAFSA completion assistance

           Itawamba Community College is offering an opportunity to assist prospective students with completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.             Students in ICC’s five-county district can make appointments with a financial aid adviser on designated dates, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid at ICC.             The schedule includes Mooreville High School, Oct. 26; Tupelo Christian Preparatory School, Oct. 27; Shannon High School, Oct. 28; Itawamba Agricultural High School, Oct. 29; Aberdeen High School, Nov. 2; Hamilton High School, Nov. 3; Amory High School, Nov. 8; Tupelo High School, Nov. 9; Okolona High School, Nov. 10; Pontotoc High School, Nov. 11; and South Pontotoc High School, Nov. 16. Additional sessions have been held at Saltillo High School, Smithville High School, Houlka Attendance Center, Hatley High School, Nettleton High School, Baldwyn High School, Tremont High School and North Pontotoc High School. ICC student artwork on display until Nov. 17 at the Fulton Campus

            An array of drawings, paintings and sculptures by Itawamba Community College art students will be on display until Nov. 17 in the hallways of the visual arts and music area of the W.O. ICC hosts Emerging Scholars Luncheon to honor exceptional high school seniors

High school seniors with a 24+ ACT score will be honored during an Emerging Scholars Luncheon, which begins at 11 a.m., Nov. 17, at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.             “The event is an opportunity for the select group of high school seniors to learn more about the academic and involvement opportunities for honor students at ICC,” said Jake Hartfield, director of recruitment and orientation.             The schedule includes check in from 10:45-11 a.m. followed by lunch and sessions focusing on opportunities for scholars, Q & A student leader panel and an overview of Phi Theta Kappa and Honors College.  Housing and campus tours are optional.             “Participants can learn more about a variety of opportunities including scholarships, honors and peer tutoring,” Hartfield said, “and current student leaders will share information about how to balance academic life and involvement.”             Due to COVID-19 guidelines, guests are not able to attend with prospective students.             Registration is available at http://www.iccms.edu/emergingscholars. ICC responds to State Auditor's claims

    Itawamba Community College has issued a statement in response to allegations made this week by State Auditor agents about  illegal activity regarding workforce training by the institution or its current or former employees.     According to the statement, “For over two years, Itawamba Community College has fully cooperated with and been incredibly responsive to the Mississippi State Auditor’s Office in its investigation. In addition, the College hired a former United States Attorney and a well-respected, regional law firm to conduct an internal investigation into allegations made by State Auditor agents.     “Based upon that internal investigation, the College strongly denies any and all allegations of illegal activity by the institution or its current or former employees. Throughout all of this, ICC has continued to provide unparalleled workforce training pursuant to state law for both our communities and our state. ICC to host free MiBEST information session, Oct. 19, at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College will host an information session on how individuals can earn college credits and certification in HVAC, welding/cutting or Certified Nursing Assistant while working on their high school equivalency credentials at 2 p.m., Oct. 19, at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).             The free event is part of a commemoration of MiBEST Week, which is Oct. 18-23.             The Mississippi Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training program is a workforce and economic development initiative that moves low-skilled, noncredentialed Mississippians from the economic sidelines into careers earning family-sustaining wages, according to Linzy Patterson, ICC director of adult education.             The session will also cover information on academic success and financial aid.             Patterson said that pathways in addition to HVAC, welding/cutting and CNA will be available soon.             For more information, call (662) 407-1517 or email amshannon@iccms.edu.

Kellogg Foundation grant provides opportunity for returning to college

            Students who left college at least two years ago without a degree can apply for a grant to help overcome financial barriers that may keep them from returning to college to complete the requirements for their degrees.             The W.K. Kellogg Foundation recently awarded the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning $1.3 million to fund Mississippi’s Complete 2 Compete Tuition Assistance Grant through 2023. Funds can be used at any of the public universities or community colleges in Mississippi.             The Complete 2 Compete program provides one-on-one support for adult learners who have earned college credits, but not a degree, and enables them to turn their deferred dreams of earning a degree into reality.             Qualifying returning students will receive a $1,000 grant that can be renewed every semester. The award helps pay for any coursework needed to graduate and can help repay prior debt to allow students the opportunity to return and graduate.             There are more than 200,000 prior students who qualify for the Complete 2 Compete program.
