ICC formally opens softball and tennis complex Itawamba Community College formally opened its softball and tennis complex today (Sept. 18) with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Fulton Campus. “Today, we are formally opening our softball and tennis complex,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen, “and as I shared on March 7 last year when we broke ground for this magnificent facility, it’s not just any softball and tennis complex. It’s the best in the league.” The 6,010-square-foot complex in addition to the softball stadium includes separate locker rooms for both men’s and women’s tennis and softball (each is equipped with lockers, restrooms, showers, ICC athletic branding and nutrition area), laundry facilities and training area and storage rooms for both softball and tennis, all on the first floor; a press box with radio booth, scorekeeper and announcing booth and President’s hospitality suite and two large open party decks at the top of the stadium on the second floor. ICC to honor five during Alumni awards presentation at Homecoming, Oct. 17 Itawamba Community College will honor its 2024 Alumnus of the Year, Athletic Hall of Fame inductees, Distinguished Service and Young Alumnus of the Year award recipients during Homecoming activities, Oct. 17, at the Fulton Campus. They include Dr. Lance Evans of New Albany, Alumnus of the Year; Jonathan Van Every of Nashville, Tenn. and Dr. David Rather of Tupelo, Athletic Hall of Fame; Johnny Crane of Fulton, Distinguished Service; and Jamey Logan of Tupelo, Young Alumnus of the Year. A 1998 graduate of ICC, Evans became Mississippi’s State Superintendent of Education, July 1. His educational background also includes the bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University; master’s degree from the University of Mississippi; and educational specialist and doctoral degrees from Delta State University. ICC joins in National Truck Driver Appreciation Week; now recruiting students for upcoming classes Itawamba Community College is joining with the American Trucking Association in celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sept. 15-21. The weeklong celebration honors the millions of professional truck drivers who deliver America’s freight safely and securely every day. It is especially meaningful to Itawamba Community College, which is also celebrating its Commercial Truck Driving program that is now recruiting students for classes that will begin soon at its Tupelo Campus. ICC’s CTD program prepares individuals to drive Class A semitrucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes instruction in operating diesel-powered vehicles, loading and unloading cargo, reporting delays or accidents on the road, verifying loads against shipping records and keeping necessary records. ICC schedules Dinner & Demo series Itawamba Community College will sponsor a Dinner & Demo series, beginning with an already sold-out session, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. at Forklift in Tupelo with chef Cooper Miller. Available sessions are scheduled for 6 p.m., October 9, at the ICC Belden Center with Foodsmith chef David Leathers and at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 16, at Park Heights with chef Dan Schroeder. “The chefs at each location will provide a demonstration related to the dinner preparation, which will follow,” according to Josh Gammill, ICC director of Continuing Education, which is cosponsoring the series with the Food Management Certification pathway. “The three restaurants and their executive chefs have created a unique interactive experience for participants,” Gammill said. ICC Continuing Education classes set to begin soon Registration is underway for several continuing education classes that will begin soon at Itawamba Community College. They include Introduction to Single Board Microcomputers and Microcontrollers, Digital Photography for Beginners, Microsoft Excel for Beginners, Personal Finance and Art – A Basic Approach to Watercolor and Certified Nursing Assistant.
