ICC schedules Junior Preview Day Area high school juniors and their parents are invited to participate in a special event at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus, Sept. 19. Junior Preview Day, which will begin with registration at the Davis Event Center at 3 p.m., is designed for current high school juniors and their parents or guardians to receive valuable information to assist in the decision-making process of after high school choices. Highlights of the event will include meetings with areas of interest, tour of the campus and residence halls, free dinner and the ICC vs. Coahoma football game. Areas to be showcased are financial aid, scholarships, admissions, Honors College, academic programs, health professions, career education programs and housing. Armistead work currently on display in ICC gallery The 2019 fall opening exhibition at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus features the paintings of John Armistead of Tupelo. Currently on display through Sept. 19, ‘Remembrance of Things Past’ is a collection of oils and watercolors depicting primarily rural landscapes of surrounding North Mississippi counties as well as a few portraits. Armistead, a Presbyterian minister, is an award-winning artist, author and journalist. He holds degrees from Mississippi College (B.A.), the University of Mississippi (M.A. in Classical Greek and Latin), Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min. in Theology and History) He has also studied at The Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley, Sorrento Lingue International Language Institute in Sorrento, Italy, the Art Students League of New York and the National Academy of Design in New York. Pounds, McIntosh selected as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars Itawamba Community College sophomores Anna Pounds of Golden and Torrance (TJ) McIntosh of Wren have been selected as 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship. McIntosh is majoring in biology with a pre-medicine concentration. He is vice president of scholarship for the Upsilon Sigma chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, vice president of the Fulton Campus Student Government Association and a member of the Indian Delegation and All-American Band. He is a member of the Greater New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church of Nettleton, where he serves as the youth department president, usher board member and youth choir member. He is the son of Torrance and Sylvia McIntosh. Pounds currently serves as the vice president of leadership for the Upsilon Sigma Chapter of PTK. Paralegal program selected among nation's best Itawamba Community College’s Paralegal Technology program has been selected as one of the top online Paralegal degree programs in the nation by TheBestSchools.org. It achieved a ninth-place ranking among the top 25 Best Online Paralegal Associate Programs. ICC offers two degrees in paralegal studies: an online Associate of Applied Science degree in paralegal technology and an Associate of Arts degree in general studies with a paralegal studies emphasis. The two-year A.A.S. degree in paralegal technology includes coursework in legal research, family law and legal writing. Coursework in wills and estates, civil litigation, real property and family law introduces students to subsets of the legal field while providing information about legal principles and procedures, according to program director Jamie Hall. TPSD, ICC partner to form middle college In a historic move to provide additional educational opportunities for students, a joint agreement was codified between the Tupelo Public School District and Itawamba Community College on Tuesday to create an innovative Middle College. The first of its kind in North Mississippi, this program will allow qualified Tupelo High School students to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree from ICC. Launching in August, an initial pilot cohort of THS juniors will attend classes at the ICC Tupelo campus for the majority of the school day while also taking class at THS. ICC students can take advantage of Mississippi Works Career-Tech Scholars Program Itawamba Community College students who enroll in one of 18 career education programs this fall can take advantage of a new scholarship program. The Mississippi Works Career-Tech Scholars Program, administered by the Mississippi Community College Board, has been established to serve as a state-assisted tuition scholarship program for eligible community and junior college students by providing tuition financial assistance to those who enroll in approved, in-demand Career Education certificate and Associate of Applied Science degree programs identified through sector analysis to meet the workforce demands of the state, according to Emily Tucker, ICC adviser and recruitment coordinator. Dates and times include Aug. 7 from 4:30-7 p.m., Aug. 8 from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Aug. 9 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus; and Aug. 8-9 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the David C. Cole Student Services Building at the Fulton Campus. Three ICC graduates selected for Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program JACKSON, Miss –Sydney Franks of Saltillo, Cole Stephens of Mantachie and William “Ti” Simpson of Okolona have been selected to participate in the undergraduate portion of the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP). Franks is the daughter of Fred Franks Jr. and Carin Franks of Saltillo. Stephens’ parents are Craig and Shaye Stephens of Mantachie. Simpson is the son of Billy and Judy Simpson of Tupelo. Created in 2007, MRPSP identifies college sophomores and juniors who demonstrate the necessary commitment and academic achievement to become competent, well-trained rural primary care physicians in our state. The program offers undergraduate academic enrichment and a clinical experience in a rural setting. Upon completion of all medical school admissions requirements, the student can be admitted to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine or William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
