BELDEN MOCK DRILL Itawamba Community College will conduct a mock active shooter drill at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) from 8 a.m.-noon, Jan. 4. “This will be a test of our emergency preparedness procedures,” said Dr. Brad Boggs, interim vice president of student services. “The normal operation of the facility will not be disrupted.” The event, which is only a training exercise, will take from 3-4 hours and will occur on the south side of the Belden Center, Boggs said. “This will provide local law enforcement, emergency responders and the College an opportunity to work together in the event of an incident. Dates and times include Jan. 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; Jan. 4 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Fulton Campus and from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus; January 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, and Jan. 6 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Jan. 16 is deadline for applying for ICC Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship Jan. 16 is the deadline for applying for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship for those enrolling for the 2018 spring semester at Itawamba Community College. The scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester, is designed to provide an incentive for new or returning students, age 23 or older, not enrolled in college for the previous two years to pursue a degree at ICC. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. The scholarship cannot be combined with other ICC institutional scholarships. Day and evening academic, career and technical, eLearning and workforce classes are available in Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. ICC will be closed Dec. 19-Jan. 1. MSBC class set for January Registration is continuing for a day class option for the Manufacturing Skills Basic Certification program which will begin Jan. 16 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. ICC is among Mississippi’s two- and four-year institutions collaborating in the Complete2Compete initiative, which is designed to increase the number of adults with postsecondary degrees or credentials of value to positively impact the state’s educational attainment rate and economy as well as the quality of life for those who complete their degrees. Hunter Holley semifinalist for prestigious scholarship Hunter Holley of Amory, a sophomore at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a semifinalist for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship. The Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship is the largest private scholarship in the nation for students transferring from two-year community colleges to four-year institutions that award bachelor’s degrees. Holley is ICC’s first semifinalist. Cooke Scholarships fund the costs of attending college not covered by other financial aid, plus academic advising, stipends for internships, study abroad and opportunities to network with other Cooke Scholars and alumni. In addition, after earning a bachelor’s degree, each Cooke Scholar will be eligible to apply for a scholarship for graduate school worth up to $50,000 a year for up to four years. Since 2000, the Cooke Foundation has awarded approximately $147 million in scholarships to more than 2,000 students and $90 million in grants to organizations that serve outstanding low-income students.
