Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe performance

Itawamba Community College faculty, staff and students are cordially invited to attend a performance by the Chickasaw Nation Dance Troupe at 9 a.m., September 13, at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. The dance troupe was formed in 1992 to educate, preserve and restore Chickasaw dance traditions. By keeping this tradition alive, the troupe is able to share the ancient arts of shell shaking, stomp dancing and songs with people from around the world. The event, which is sponsored by the Itawamba County Bicentennial Committee, is free.

2017 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees

Itawamba Community College will honor its 2017 Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during Homecoming activities, Oct. 28, at the Fulton Campus. They include John and Beth Reed Cleveland of Kingwood, Tex., Alumnus of the Year; and Elaine Fagan Battigan of Dublin, Ireland and Duce Staley of Philadelphia, Penn., Athletic Hall of Fame. The Clevelands, who are Itawamba County natives, participated in intercollegiate athletics at ICC, where they pursued majors in the fields of engineering and math and science education. John graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School and attended ICC on a basketball scholarship. He earned the associate’s degree from ICC in 1985 and is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in civil engineering. For 26 years he has been employed by ExxonMobil, and he serves as an Ole Miss campus recruiter. He is married to the former Beth Reed, who attended ICC. Freshman Run

Itawamba Community College is sponsoring its first Freshman Run, Sept. 7, to kick off the Indians’ football game with Hinds Community College, which begins at 7 p.m. at Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus. Members of ICC’s freshman class will lead the team onto the field for the first time ever in what is expected to become an annual tradition, said Dr. Jan Reid-Bunch, executive director of Community Relations. “We encourage parents and friends to attend in support of their students.” Admission to the game is $7. ICC to honor first responders

Itawamba Community College will honor area first responders Sept. 14 during the Indians’ 7 p.m. football game with the Northwest Rangers at Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus. First responders and their families will be admitted free to the game. Complete 2 Compete

Itawamba Community College is among Mississippi’s two- and four-year institutions which are collaborating in an initiative to assist adults who have earned some college credit but insufficient hours for a degree to complete the requirements necessary.   The Complete 2 Compete initiative has launched a website, www.msc2c.org, to provide information and resources to enable state residents to evaluate their previous coursework to determine a pathway to college completion. “Itawamba Community College is excited about the unlimited possibilities Complete 2 Compete will provide for residents of our region and beyond,” said President Dr. Jay Allen. “We look forward to participating in this initiative to provide an exceptional educational foundation to enhance the quality of life, particularly for the adult learner segment of the population.” “Complete 2 Compete will grow our skilled, educated workforce, in turn growing economic development across the state,” said Gov. Constitution Day

Mississippi Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley and Sen. Chad McMahan (Dist. 6) will be featured presenters during Itawamba Community College’s celebration of Constitution Day at 7 p.m., Sept. 18, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus.             Both will engage in a discussion/forum on local issues, which affect both ICC and the area it serves.             The event is free, and the public is invited.             For more information, contact Chris Stevenson at (662) 862-8169 or email castevenson@iccms.edu.

Alumni membership drive

Itawamba Community College’s Alumni Association is attempting to reconnect with more than 16,000 graduates or those who have attended as part of its annual membership drive which is underway. The association provides an opportunity for alumni to stay connected with ICC, to receive updates and information as well as to give back to the institution that provides so many with an exceptional educational background. Membership in ICC’s Alumni Association is open to former students, current and former faculty and staff members and friends of the College. Mini dance camp

Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for a mini dance camp for grades K through six, which is scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon, Sept. 9, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Participants will learn the ICC fight song and a new dance routine. They will perform during halftime of ICC’s Sept. 14 football game.
