Business Office Specialist program

Itawamba Community College is offering a 15-week business office specialist program that will begin Feb. 20 at the Belden Center. Meetings will be from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, through June 7. The program is designed for students to develop basic office, communication and computer technology skills. Through intensive lab instruction, students have the opportunity to attain an Intuit Quickbooks certification and receive training and instruction to prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification in MS Excel and MS Word. Additional highlights of the program include instruction in performance of technical office tasks; “soft-skills” such as teamwork, communication and customer service; basic math; fundamentals of bookkeeping and basic human resource management. 2018 Board of Trustees officers

Mac Allen Thomas of Aberdeen has been elected chairman of the Itawamba Community College Board of Trustees for 2018. Other officers include Danny Robbins of Pontotoc, first vice chairman; Carl Comer of Fulton, second vice chairman; Barry Dendy of Woodland, secretary; and William Shack of Tupelo, immediate past chairman. 2018 Pack the House

Itawamba Community College alumni members and their families will receive free admission upon presentation of their ID to the fifth annual Pack the House, which will be Jan. 25 at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. There will also be an opportunity to meet members of ICC’s spring sports teams. ICC will play East Mississippi Community College with the women’s basketball game beginning at 6 p.m., and the men’s at 8 p.m. Additionally, ICC’s spring sports teams will participate in Meet the Tribe events. The softball and tennis teams will be recognized during halftime of the women’s game and be available for signing schedule posters; and the baseball and golf teams, during the men’s games. Area baseball and softball players wearing their team jerseys will be admitted free when accompanied by a parent. They should enter through the Davis Event Center main lobby. ICC welcomes new employees

Several area residents participated in new employee orientation at Itawamba Community College, Jan. 4. They include Kami Clark of Amory, assistant softball coach; Chris Moses of Plantersville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Linzy Patterson of Amory, adult basic education/high school equivalency instructor; Megan Ragsdale of Fulton, housekeeping; Angeelas Shannon of Tupelo, adult basic education administrative assistant and bookkeeper; Jimmy Whitehead of Booneville, industrial maintenance technology instructor; Shundria Whitfield of Nettleton, adult basic education instructor; and Greg Yarbrough of Fulton, WIOA career coach. Clark earned the associate’s degree at ICC and is working toward the bachelor’s degree at the University of Mississippi. Moses previously served as HVAC instructor at Pinnacle Career Institute in Kansas City, Mo. His educational background includes the associate’s degree in robotics/automated systems from ICC. He has one child. Patterson earned the associate’s degree from ICC and the bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee-Martin. Previously he was special education teacher for the Amory School District. His honors include Teacher of the Year. 2018 Most Beautiful Pageant

Itawamba Community College has scheduled its 2018 Most Beautiful Pageant at 7 p.m., Feb. 6, at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Four beauties and ICC’s Most Beautiful will be selected from the top 10 contestants. Additional titles to be awarded include Most Photogenic, Most Social, Crowd Favorite and Miss Congeniality. Tickets, which are $6, may be purchased from Community Relations at the Futon Campus or at www.iccms.edu/tickets. If available, tickets will be sold at the door the evening of the pageant. Spring 2018 registration continues

Registration is continuing for the 2018 spring semester at Itawamba Community College. Students may register through Jan. 12 for traditional full-term classes and the traditional eight-week accelerated term; Jan. 17 for the eight-week eLearning term; and Jan. 19 for full-term eLearning classes. ICC offers an Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester, and is designed to provide an incentive for new or returning students, age 23 or older, not enrolled in college for the previous two years to pursue a degree at ICC. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. The scholarship cannot be combined with other ICC institutional scholarships. The application deadline is Jan. 16. Academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. ICC schedules Preparing for the ACT

The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled two options for Preparing for the ACT.             The weekly option will begin Feb. 5 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) and will meet Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. through Apr. 2 except for no meeting on Mar. 12. The $100 fee includes the book. Preparing for the ACT will also be offered six Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. English and reading will be covered Jan. 21, Mar. 24 and May 26, and math and science, Feb. 3, Apr. 7 and May 19. Cost is $50 for each session.             ICC’s ACT prep class instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods including review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for studying smart that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests will be administered to measure performance, and extensive handouts will be provided for skill practice.            ...

Connect2ICC at ICC-Tupelo, Jan. 6

Connect2ICC will provide an opportunity for students to register for the spring semester at Itawamba Community College from 8:30-11:30 a.m., Jan. 6, in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus.             The session is designed for current and returning students, high school equivalency graduates, adult learners and transfer students.             Academic advising, online orientation, scholarships and financial aid representatives will be available to provide assistance as well as a career coach, who can evaluate transcripts for those individuals who are eligible to participate in the Complete2Compete program, a statewide initiative to enable individuals who lack only a few credit hours to earn their degrees.             Individuals who are 23 or older and not enrolled in college for the previous two years can also apply for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester.
