eLearning accelerated term

Registration for a four-week eLearning accelerated term is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             Students may register through Feb. 13, which is the first day of classes.             For more information on registration, contact Student Affairs on the Fulton Campus at (662) 862-8000 or Tupelo Campus at (662) 620-5000 or email go2icc@iccms.edu.  

Blood drive

Itawamba Community College will host a blood drive from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Jan. 26, in front of the Natural Science Building on the Fulton Campus. To sign up for a time, go to www.bloodhero.com and enter sponsor code ICCFulton or contact Dr. Betsy Chesnutt at bcchesnutt@iccms.edu or (662) 862-8365.

Furniture Academy

Itawamba Community College will provide a first-in-line opportunity for a furniture manufacturing job with the inception of the Furniture “Certified” Academy. The purpose of the 28-hour course, offered by both ICC and Northeast Mississippi Community College, is to give graduates a chance to go to the front of the hiring line at participating furniture industries, which will result in a higher base pay when they are employed. Graduates will also earn two national credentials (OSHA 10 and WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate) when they pass the courses. “The Furniture Academy will ensure Northeast Mississippi has a skilled, robust workforce to meet the demand of the region’s manufacturers,” said Miss. Gov. Phil Bryant in making the announcement at the Tupelo Furniture Market, Jan. 12. “I am grateful to the local industries, educational systems and community organizations whose partnership made it a reality.” The curriculum of the academy is an introduction to furniture manufacturing, teamwork and problem-solving, role of employer and employee/work ethic, financial awareness/life skills, OSHA 10 and WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate. William Winter Scholar

              She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 28th Annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 23-25 in Natchez.             Potts, who is in her eighth year at ICC, earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi University for Women plus 30 hours of post graduate work in English. She is a graduate of Saltillo High School, where she was the salutatorian. Potts taught nine years in the public schools for West Point, Nettleton and Saltillo and 25 years in home education. In 2012, she won the Ovid S. Vickers Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English. She has been married 43 years to Roger Potts, and they have five children and eight grandchildren. They are active members of Gumtree Presbyterian Church in Tupelo.             The theme of the conference, which is sponsored by Copiah-Lincoln Community College, the City of Natchez, Adams County Board of Supervisors, Mississippi Development Authority, Mississippi Humanities Council and the Mississippi Bicentennial Commission, is “Mississippi: A Literary Journey.”  

Pickin' in the Pines

Itawamba Community College will present Pickin in the Pines, a gospel/bluegrass talent competition benefiting the ICC Foundation, Inc., at 6 p.m., Feb. 6, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Entry fees are $20, single; and $30, group (two or more). Each act must be no longer than two minutes. The contest is not confined to specifically instrumental, vocal and other talent-worthy performances. It is an opportunity for a broad variety of students and members of the community to display their talents, musicianship and entertainment abilities to a wide audience.  The winner will be the opening act for Grammy Award-winning artists Dailey and Vincent at the at the 21st annual gospel/bluegrass concert, which will begin at 4 p.m., Mar. 4, at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus. Students may register for traditional classes through Jan. 13; for the Jan. eight-week accelerated eLearning classes, Jan. 18; and full-term eLearning, Jan. 20. Academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden. To register, visit the Student Affairs offices at the Fulton and Tupelo campuses. Locations are the David C. Tupelo LRC workshops

The Learning Resource Center at the Itawamba Community College Tupelo Campus has scheduled a series of workshops during the spring semester. The workshops are designed to provide information about available resources as well as Microsoft Office 365. They include Navigating the LRC Databases (30 minutes) - Jan. 24 and Jan. 30, 1 p.m.; CANVAS Basics (45 minutes) - Jan. 25, 5 p.m. and Jan. 27, 10 a.m.; Lost in the Library? (30 minutes) - Feb. 1, 10 a.m. and Feb. 14, noon; Using Microsoft Office (45 minutes) - Feb. 7, noon and Feb. 10, 10 a.m.;  Keeping Up with Your Information (45 minutes) - Feb. 17, 10 a.m. and Feb. 22, 1 p.m.; and  No Shelf Required: eBooks and Audio Books (45 minutes) - Feb. 24, 10 a.m. and Mar. 1, 1 p.m.  The workshops are free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Holly Gray at ehgray@iccms.edu or (662) 620-5090.

Pack the House

Itawamba Community College alumni members and their families will receive free admission upon presentation of their ID to the fourth annual Pack the House event, which will be Jan. 30 at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. ICC will play Northwest with the women’s basketball game beginning at 6 p.m., and the men’s at 8 p.m. ICC’s Indianettes will perform at halftime of each game. A pregame tailgate will be available for alumni from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Davis Event Center. Connect2ICC

Connect2ICC will provide an opportunity for students to register for the spring semester at Itawamba Community College from 8:30-11 a.m., Jan. 7, in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus. The session is designed for current and returning students, high school equivalency graduates, adult learners and transfer students, according to Michael Holloway, academic adviser/recruiter. Academic advising, online orientation, scholarships and financial aid representatives will be available to provide assistance.  Individuals who are 23 or older and not enrolled in college for the previous two years can also apply for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which provides half-tuition for one semester. Criteria for selection include Mississippi resident, enrollment in a minimum of six semester hours, meeting admission requirements and in good standing with ICC. The scholarship cannot be combined with other ICC institutional scholarships. Traditional day classes begin Jan. 9, and eLearning classes, Jan. 17.  ICC offers academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce training classes. Spring 2017 open registration

Open registration at Itawamba Community College has been scheduled for the 2017 spring semester. Dates and times include from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Jan. 5 and 6 in the Administration Building at the Fulton Campus and in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus. Evening registration will be 4:30-7 p.m., Jan. 4, and 4:30-6 p.m., Jan. 5, in the Student Support Center at the Tupelo Campus. The last day for late registration for traditional classes is Jan. 13; Jan. eight-week accelerated eLearning, Jan. 18; and full-term eLearning, Jan. 20. Traditional classes begin Jan. 9, and eLearning, Jan. 17.
