ICC graduates more than 650 during three May 12 ceremonies

More than 650 graduates of Itawamba Community College crossed the stage at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus, May 12, during three commencement ceremonies and were rewarded with Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degrees or certificates. They were among approximately 1,000 graduates who have earned degrees from ICC this year, including Kelly Barnett of Amory, who participated during the 10 a.m. ceremony.             Barnett, who majored in Business and Marketing Management Technology, said she “didn’t have the opportunity to attend college right out of high school because of personal issues, so to be able to finally complete this has meant the world to me. This time around has not been without its challenges either.” She lost her father in October 2021. “I know he was so proud I was back in school, so even though I wanted to quit, I pushed through! I just want my children to look at me and be proud of me and understand that it is okay if you fail or get off track, but don’t ever quit.” That drive led ...

May 30 deadline for ICC selective admission programs

May 30 is the deadline for application for four selective admission programs at Itawamba Community College.             They include electrical, industrial maintenance, robotics and automation and welding. All are taught at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road).             Selective admission programs have a limited number of openings each year and have specific entry-level admission requirements that must be met before selection for admission to the program. ICC schedules Forklift Operator Training class, June 1

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a Forklift Operator Training class, which will meet June 1 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.             Highlights include OSHA safety instruction, forklift simulator practice, safety check protocol and hands-on driving, loading and unloading operation. The class is limited to seven participants. ICC schedules speed typing, intro to Python classes at Belden Center

Registration is underway for speed typing and introduction to Python classes at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Introduction to Python, which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for five weeks, begins May 15. Designed for beginners, the course provides instruction in the core concepts of Python, and students will be able to understand and complete basic programming functions. Python is a programming language that is used in data analytics, artificial intelligence and Web programming.             Speed Typing meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for five weeks beginning May 16. The instructor-led, interactive class provides the best tips and strategies to enhance typing skills to improve speed to enhance employee effectiveness, regardless of career pathway. May 1 is application deadline for ICC health science programs

May 1 is the deadline for the submission of applications for health science programs at Itawamba Community College.             They include associate degree nursing, diagnostic medical sonography, health information technology, licensed practical nursing (August class), occupational therapy assistant technology, physical therapist assistant technology, public health technology, radiologic technology, respiratory care technology and surgical technology.             For more information about program requirements, access ICC’s website at www.iccms.edu or call (662) 620-5239.

ICC schedules Legal Studies Day

            Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for a Legal Studies Day scheduled for Apr. 14 at the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus.             High school seniors are invited to explore the opportunities available through ICC’s School of Legal Studies, according to Dr. Michelle Sumerel, vice president of instructional services.             Interactive demonstrations will highlight opportunities in criminal justice, pre-law, paralegal and political science.             Check-in is scheduled for 9-9:30 a.m.             For more information or to register, email jmsumerel@iccms.edu or call (662) 862-8050.

Registration underway for Fundamentals of Restaurant Startup class at ICC-Belden

           Registration is underway for a Fundamentals of Restaurant Startup class that will begin soon at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class meets three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 1-3 p.m. for two weeks.             Included are general startup/finance (success rates, common mistakes, restaurant types and financials), menu and pricing, brick and mortar vs. food truck (ownership types, lease vs. purchase, permits and inspections), employee training and hiring (interviewing, onboarding, customer service), leadership and management and social media/business plan (marketing).             The fee is $150.             For more information or to register, contact instructor Christy Scheuer at (662) 407-1505 or email acscheuer@iccms.edu or pathways@iccms.edu.

Registration continues for ICC orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll in the fall

            Registration is continuing at Itawamba Community College for orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2023 fall semester.             2023 high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for the Fulton Campus – Apr. 21 and 28, June 13 and 15 and July 11 and 13, 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.; and the Tupelo Campus – June 14 and July 12, all at 1 p.m. A special honors orientation for those with a 24 ACT or higher is scheduled for Apr. 12 at 1 p.m. at the Fulton Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. ICC's PMMT program receives $20,000 Gene Haas Foundation grant

                                            Itawamba Community College’s Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology program has received a $20,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation.             According to Dylan Baldwin, ICC’s director of Career Education, the funds are being used for financial aid for several students. “We appreciate very much the investment by the Haas Foundation in ICC’s Precision Manufacturing and Machining Technology program,” Baldwin said. “Not only is it an investment in the program, but it is an investment in the futures of our students.”             In 1999, Gene Haas formed the foundation, which bears his name because he grew up with a strong social conscience instilled by his family. It was initially designed to fund the needs of the local community. Haas Automation is now a billion-dollar company. The focus of the foundation has shifted to the current outreach and methodology.
