ICC's Vaughn completes MCCB Leadership Academy

            Tonya Vaughn of Mantachie, dean of Health Science Instruction at Itawamba Community College, has completed the year-long Mississippi Community College Board Leadership Academy.             The program, which provides face-to-face and virtual sessions, included a variety of learning topics, modules, book studies, lectures, role play and group discussions.             An alumnus of ICC, Vaughn earned the bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama and the master’s degree from Western Governors University. She has been employed at ICC for 25 years, previously serving as director of the Surgical Technology program. Vaughn’s professional memberships are the Association of Surgical Technologists, Mississippi Board of Nursing, Association of Surgical Technology (curriculum writing team), Association of Career Technical Educators, Career Technical Officers Association and advisory committee for Pontotoc and Itawamba County Allied Health. During her tenure with ICC, Vaughn has been instrumental in coordinating efforts with healthcare partners, including all sites of the North Mississippi Medical Center, Specialty Orthopedic Group, Baptist Memorial Hospital facilities, Magnolia Regional in Corinth and the OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. ICC schedules "Spooktacular," summer drama camp

            Registration is underway for “Spooktacular,” a summer drama camp at Itawamba Community College, which is scheduled for June 5-9 from 9 a.m.-noon at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center at the Fulton Campus.             The camp includes classes and performances focused on such literature as “Creepy Carrots,” “The Jabberwocky,” “Macavity the Mystery Cat” and “What Are You Scared Of.”             Students who are leaving second through eighth grade are eligible to participate.             The cost is $100 which includes camp t-shirt and daily snack. The deadline is May 25.             The public is invited to free closing programs to showcase the students’ talents at noon and 6 p.m., June 9.

ICC schedules summer terms open registration sessions

Open registration for traditional first summer/full term classes and eLearning full-term, first and second four-week classes at Itawamba Community College is scheduled for May 25 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at both the David C. Cole Student Services Building on the Fulton Campus and the Academic and Student Center on the Tupelo Campus.             Class start dates include eLearning first four-week and full-term, traditional first and full-term, May 30.             For more information, email eadviser@iccms.edu.

ICC graduates more than 650 during three May 12 ceremonies

More than 650 graduates of Itawamba Community College crossed the stage at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus, May 12, during three commencement ceremonies and were rewarded with Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degrees or certificates. They were among approximately 1,000 graduates who have earned degrees from ICC this year, including Kelly Barnett of Amory, who participated during the 10 a.m. ceremony.             Barnett, who majored in Business and Marketing Management Technology, said she “didn’t have the opportunity to attend college right out of high school because of personal issues, so to be able to finally complete this has meant the world to me. This time around has not been without its challenges either.” She lost her father in October 2021. “I know he was so proud I was back in school, so even though I wanted to quit, I pushed through! I just want my children to look at me and be proud of me and understand that it is okay if you fail or get off track, but don’t ever quit.” That drive led ...

May 30 deadline for ICC selective admission programs

May 30 is the deadline for application for four selective admission programs at Itawamba Community College.             They include electrical, industrial maintenance, robotics and automation and welding. All are taught at the ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road).             Selective admission programs have a limited number of openings each year and have specific entry-level admission requirements that must be met before selection for admission to the program. ICC's Guntharp named Mississippi Community College Connectivity Consortium chairman

            Jason Guntharp of Fulton, system engineer/project manager at Itawamba Community College, has been recently named chairman of the Mississippi Community College Connectivity Consortium (MC4).             MC4 is the evolution of the state’s Computer Center Director’s Association, now known as MJCCCDA, which was formed on Dec. 10, 1986. Its purpose is to collaborate and share solutions to problems that affected all colleges as well as the catalyst for a computer network to connect all of the two-year colleges.             The Strategic Planning Council, which was the first IT technical group, evolved into MC4. Today, the organization represents community colleges from across the state and confronts the technology challenges that affect every community college, Guntharp said. “It is an honor to lead and be part of a group with such a rich history in the state. ICC's Allen, Atkins accepted into prestigious Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program

Itawamba Community College sophomores Emma Grace Allen of Fulton and Payton Atkins of Hamilton have been accepted into the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP).             The MRPSP offers scholarships to medical students in Mississippi who agree to practice in underserved rural areas of Mississippi after completing their training for one year for each year they receive the scholarship. Participants will receive mentoring, rural clinical experience, MCAT preparation and a support system on their pathway to becoming a physician. As part of the MRPSP, they join a network of undergraduate students, medical students, residents and practicing physicians, all offering support throughout their medical education and into their future practice.             Allen is a biology major at ICC, where she will receive her associate’s degree this month. Her honors and activities include orientation leader, Global Experience, Food Pantry representative, Indian Delegation president, BSU lead team member, Fashion Tribe, STEM Club, Phi Theta Kappa, Honors College, Science Club, Miss ICC 2023, Hall of Fame 2023 and freshman and sophomore Homecoming maid. ICC schedules Forklift Operator Training class, June 1

Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a Forklift Operator Training class, which will meet June 1 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.             Highlights include OSHA safety instruction, forklift simulator practice, safety check protocol and hands-on driving, loading and unloading operation. The class is limited to seven participants.
