ICC sets new adult education student orientation, Mar. 1-3, at Belden Center

Itawamba Community College will enroll new adult education students with a three-day orientation session, Mar. 1-3, at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road).             Each session will begin at 8:30 a.m. Participants must have a photo ID, and 16-/17-year-olds should be accompanied by a parent or guardian and bring a withdrawal form from the most recent school attended. Entry into the adult education area is across from the WIN Job Center at ICC-Belden.             Students who plan to enroll in any of the classes offered in the ICC five-county district are encouraged to attend.             The schedule includes             Amory – Amory WIN Center (1619 Hwy. 25 North), Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.;             Belden – ICC Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road), Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; and ESL, Monday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. and Tuesday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m.;             Fulton – Old Grammar School (603 So. ICC's Sumerel selected PTK Distinguished College Administrator Award recipient

Dr. Michelle Sumerel of Mooreville,  vice president of instructional services at Itawamba Community College, has been selected as a recipient of the Distinguished College Administrator award presented by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.             Sumerel is one of 28 college administrators who will be recognized during PTK Catalyst 2022, the society’s annual convention in Denver, Colo., Apr. 7-9.             Sumerel has been vice president of Instructional Services at Itawamba Community College since Jan. 4, 2016, but a member of the ICC family since 2006. She has served as lead online instructor for sociology and criminal justice, director for the Law Enforcement Technology program, eLearning coordinator and dean of eLearning Instruction. Her educational background includes the bachelor’s degree from the University of North Alabama and the master’s and doctorate degrees from Mississippi State University. Sumerel is a member of several professional and civic organizations and is the recipient of multiple awards and recognitions. She is the author of two publications and presenter of numerous papers at conferences and meetings across the state, region and south. She is the mother of one son, Tyler.             ...

ICC registration for eight-week classes underway

Registration for eight-week traditional and eLearning classes is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             Mar. 8 is the deadline to register for the traditional classes, which begin Mar. 7; and Mar. 15 for the eLearning classes, which begin Mar. 14.             ICC offers academic, career education, workforce and eLearning classes. ICC schedules Food Service Pathway class to begin Feb. 14

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Feb. 14.             Classes are scheduled to meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. for four weeks.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. ICC's Bowers selected as 2022 William Winter Scholar

            Jenny Bowers of Tupelo, English instructor and Phi Theta Kappa adviser, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2022.             She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 33rd Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 24-26.             Bowers joined the ICC faculty in 2002 as an adjunct instructor and became full-time in 2011. Also, she has served as Writing Center consultant and director.             She earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University. Her awards and honors include National Merit Finalist and for Phi Theta Kappa, Five-Star Adviser, Bennie Warren Outstanding Adviser for the MS/LA Region (two years) and the Horizon Award for New Advisers.             Bowers is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, National English Honorary; Delta Kappa Gamma, Organization of Women Educators; and Regional Advisory Board for the MS/LA Region of PTK. She is also a scorer for AP Language Exams. Kinard-Jones born into ICC's family...and her journey continues

            Dr. Ira Lindsay Kinard-Jones of Houston was literally born into the Itawamba Community College family since her mother, Audrey, was an ICC educator at the time. At the age of 4, Kinard-Jones took her first official steps onto the ICC-Tupelo Campus and into the Child Development Center, where she was a student. Following her high school years at Houston, Kinard-Jones enrolled at ICC, where she graduated in 2004. Four years later, she was employed as a career education instructor in mathematics at the Tupelo Campus. “I completed a degree in mathematics education,” Kinard-Jones said. “I wanted to become a teacher with the first postsecondary institution that impacted my life…the love of my alma mater.” “As a student at ICC, I was welcomed by a group of experienced teachers who loved teaching,” Kinard-Jones said of the college in 2002-04. “Almost all my teachers are retired (now). The climate was community…very die-hard ICC…student involvements were at an all-time high.” She earned additional degrees including the bachelor’s and master’s from the University of Mississippi and the doctorate from Mississippi State ...

Price to be featured speaker for ICC's Unity programs, Feb. 16

           Dr. Richard Price of Tupelo, senior minister of the North Green Street Church of Christ, will be the featured speaker for Unity programs in Celebration of Black History Month, Feb. 16, at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The Tupelo Campus program is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. in the Dining Hall of the Academic and Student Center; and the Fulton Campus program, 6 p.m. in the banquet rooms of the David C. Cole Student Services Building.             Price has also served congregations in Philadelphia, Pa. and Harlem, NY. He has taught at the College of New Rochelle Brooklyn and Harlem campuses in areas of social science. He earned the bachelor’s degree from Livingstone, master’s degree from St. John’s University and the M.A.R.L.A. and D. Min. from New York Theological Seminary. ICC schedules orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll in summer, fall

Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2022 summer and fall semesters.             Recent high school graduates are required to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Apr. 11 (Honors), June 7, June 8, June 9, July 19 at 1 p.m.; Apr. 22 and 29, May 6 and July 21, all at 8:30 a.m., at the Fulton Campus; and Apr. 13, June 21 at 1 p.m. and June 23 and July 21 at 5 p.m. at the Tupelo Campus. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Jake Hartfield, director of recruitment and orientation. “Participants will have an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as to learn more about student life at ICC.
