ICC sets orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for spring 2022

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled orientation sessions for students who plan to enroll for the 2022 spring semester.             High school students who graduate in December are highly encouraged to participate in one of the sessions, which are scheduled for Nov. 18 and Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. each day at the Tupelo Campus at iccms.edu/orientation. Students can attend a session regardless of the location they plan to attend in the spring. However, all students, including adult learners, are invited.             “Among the advantages of attending an orientation session are scheduling classes early and choosing from a wide variety of options, including days, times and instructors and possibly completing the process before graduation from high school,” said Jake Hartfield, director of recruitment and orientation. “The sessions will also provide an opportunity for adult learners to connect with an adviser and to make the transition to college less intimidating.”             During the spring semester, students may choose from several instructional delivery methods, including online, face-to-face and hybrid.             Students must have submitted an application for admission as ...

ICC hosts Job Fair, Nov. 11, at Belden Center

            Itawamba Community College is hosting a Job Fair in room 509 of the Belden Conference Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.), Nov. 11, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.             Participating companies, which will be available to discuss potential job opportunities, include Advanced Technology Services, APMM, Blue Springs Metals, Central Service Association, CEW, Franklin Furniture, Homestretch, International Paper, Itawamba Community College, Magnum Metals, North Mississippi Health Services, Omega Motion, Raybern Foods, Renin, Toyota and Winchester.             The event is free and open to the public.             For more information, contact Josh Gammill at jegammill@iccms.edu or call (662) 407-1569.

ICC offers adult learner incentive scholarship

Jan. 21 is the deadline for applying for the Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship for those enrolling for the 2022 spring semester at Itawamba Community College.             To apply for the scholarship, students must be 21 years of age or older and enrolling in classes to pursue a degree. Full-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours, will receive $2,000 ($500 per semester), and part-time recipients, who are enrolled in a minimum of six hours, will receive $1,000 ($250 per semester).             The Adult Learner scholarship must be used in consecutive semesters. Eligibility must begin the first semester of attendance and cannot be used more than once. It is for students who begin enrollment for the 2022 spring term.             Day and evening, academic, career education, eLearning and workforce classes are available in Fulton, Tupelo and Belden.             Those who are interested and qualify can apply online at apply.iccms.edu.

eLearning four-week session registration underway

Registration for a four-week eLearning session is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.           Classes begin on Nov. 15, which is the registration deadline.           ICC offers academic, career education, workforce and eLearning classes. ICC named one of nation's top 150 community colleges

Today, the Aspen Institute named Itawamba Community College one of the 150 institutions eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges. Those selected for this honor stand out among more than 1,000 community colleges nationwide as having high and improving levels of student success as well as equitable outcomes for Black and Hispanic students and those from lower-income backgrounds.             The 150 eligible colleges have been invited to submit data and narratives as the next steps in an intensive data and practice review process, culminating in the announcement of the Prize winner in spring 2023.             “It is a tremendous honor for Itawamba Community College to be selected as one of the top 150 community colleges in the nation and to be afforded the opportunity to compete for the significant Aspen Prize,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “It is another indication of the success of the College, its continuing status as a premier community college and a testament to our exceptional faculty ...

ICC's Lancaster receives University of Mississippi grant for Open Educational Resources

            Dr. Ashley Craig Lancaster of Tupelo has received a grant from the William-Flora Hewlett Foundation from the University of Mississippi to fund the integration of Open Educational Resources into her American Literature I course at Itawamba Community College.             The award will enable Lancaster to replace her copyrighted course material with that which is openly-licensed, which means that the teaching, learning and research resources can be accessed easily and for free. The openly-licensed material allows for full use, reuse, adaptation and resharing by learners and educators. The free materials that are openly-licensed that Lancaster finds valuable and useful will be acceptable, according to guidelines of the grant.             According to Lancaster’s notification letter, the OER projects often save students money and increase engagement and learning. “The committee sees great promise in your proposal, and we look forward to supporting your development efforts.”             “ICC is dedicated to helping its students succeed in class, so I’m trying to do my part by making classes more affordable while still maintaining high-quality instruction,” Lancaster said.             Lancaster has published academic ...

ICC sets fall choral concert, Nov. 18

ICC schedules Food Service Pathway class beginning Nov. 8

            Itawamba Community College has scheduled a Food Service Pathway class at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) beginning Nov. 8.             Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. through Dec. 10.             The program includes Serve Safe® Food Manager Certification, Serve Safe® Alcohol Certification, CPR, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. CenterStage schedules Nov. 16 concert

ICC spring dance line auditions set for Nov. 3

Auditions for Itawamba Community College’s spring dance line are scheduled for 2:30-5 p.m., Nov. 3, in the band hall at the Fulton Campus.             Requirements include learning a 30-second dance and performing for judges and both single turn and split leap on the right. Extra credit will be awarded for double turn, open leap (second position leap) and second position turn (á la seconde).             A technique training will be from 2:30-4 p.m., Nov. 1, at the ICC band hall, but this class is not required for audition.             For more information, contact Mandy Eaton, dance coach, at abeaton@iccms.edu.
