ICC offers free short-term career pathways through December to those who qualify

           Itawamba Community College is offering several free short-term career pathways to those who qualify from now until the end of December as part of the ReSkill Mississippi Initiative.             The program is designed to help ease the economic burden and uncertainty the pandemic has created for the state’s workforce.             ICC is utilizing the resources to enhance or start new workforce development training and/or career education programs that would positively impact underemployed, unemployed, furloughed and/or otherwise displaced individuals who are experiencing economic hardships as a result of COVID-19, said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen.             ICC has utilized the ReSkill Mississippi funds to create short-term pathway programs in medical administrative assistant, quality improvement associate, introduction to industrial maintenance and electrician assistant. They join a list of 14 other pathway programs, which also offer free tuition opportunities for those who qualify through December. Allen, who serves as chair of the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Workforce Committee, and Tyler Camp, chief of staff and special assistant to the president, were instrumental in securing the more than $49 million to ...

ICC Alumni Board elects 2020-22 officers

          Officers and directors of the Itawamba Community College Alumni Association have been elected for 2020-2022.             They include Chuck Howell of Pontotoc, President; John Lee Lyles of Houston, President-Elect; Donna Thomas of New Albany, secretary; Karen McFerrin of Mantachie, immediate past president; and directors Stacy Chapman and Bobby Mooneyham, both of Houston; Joey Cox and Dan McCrimon, both of Fulton; Tammy Harrington and Jamie Osbirn, both of Tupelo; Bunky Goza of Caledonia; Thomas Griffith of Amory; Michelle Crane Sutton of Ecru; Wilton Chism of Pontotoc; Jeff Cagle of New Albany; and Bobby Griffin of Booneville. WalletHub ranks ICC first among all state public two-year institutions

           Itawamba Community College has ranked first among all public state two-year institutions in a WalletHub study that surveyed hundreds of community colleges across the United States.             In order to determine the best community colleges in the United States, the financial institution WalletHub selected a sample of 698 schools from the list of member institutions in the American Association of Community Colleges.             The schools were evaluated based on cost and financing and both education and career outcomes.              “For 70 plus years, providing affordable and accessible education has always been a significant component of Itawamba Community College’s mission,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “National recognition of the College in this area is an indication that ICC is fulfilling that mission and serving our students who are our top priority. Their success is our success.”             According to WalletHub, community colleges are a more attractive option especially this year as many individuals are struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Registration continues for fall online classes

            Registration for online classes for the 2020 fall semester at Itawamba Community College will continue through Aug. 28.             Financial aid is available as well as scholarships for adult learners. ICC's Todd completes Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training

Itawamba Community College Associate Degree Nursing instructor Dr. Cathy Todd of Fulton has earned more than 25 hours of continuing education to complete the Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training through the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The Mississippi Academy for Simulation Training provides statewide simulation educator training, access to University of Mississippi Medical Centers through the office of Interprofessional Simulation, Training, Assessment, Research and Safety and communicates a statewide expectation for recognition of the value of pedagogically-advanced training curricula, contemporary educational/workplace communication techniques and the highest ethical standards in the use of simulation in healthcare education. “The MAST course provided me with teaching strategies that I will use to engage students in learning opportunities using simulation,” Todd said. “The knowledge and experience gained by students using simulation can contribute to increased patient safety and positive outcomes.” Todd’s educational background includes the associate’s degree from ICC; bachelor’s degree from Mississippi University for Women; master’s degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center; and the doctoral degree from Samford University, all in nursing.
