Four-week eLearning session

            Registration for a four-week eLearning session is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The deadline is Sept. 17, which is the first day of classes.             ICC offers academic, career and technical, workforce and eLearning classes. ICC offers Quality Management Program Level I

            Registration is underway for Level 1: Quality Improvement Associate of the Quality Management program at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.              The two-week program will meet from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Oct. 1-12.             The course includes the body of knowledge required by the American Society for Quality for Quality Improvement Associate. Topics are quality concepts, benefits and philosophies; team roles, responsibilities and team dynamics; continuous improvement and process improvement and customer-supplier relations.             For more information or to register, contact TZ Waters at (662) 407-1526 or email tswaters@iccms.edu.

ICC sets Military Appreciation Sept. 13

            Past and current members of the armed forces will be honored during Itawamba Community College’s Military Appreciation Night, Sept. 13, at Lambert Stadium/Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus during ICC’s football game with East Mississippi Community College, which begins at 6:30 p.m. and pre-game at 6 p.m.             Special activities will include a salute during halftime featuring ICC’s All-American Band. Admission is free to all past and current armed forces members and their families.             In addition, ICC is partnering with the American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo to collect items for care packages for the more than 4,000 Mississippi National Guard soldiers who are currently deployed in Kuwait. Those who attend are encouraged to bring items including toiletries, food and personal items. Upcoming Food Service Pathway classes

Itawamba Community College has scheduled dates for its four-week Food Service Pathway program at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).             Beginning and ending dates for the classes include Sept. 4-28, Oct. 1-26 and Oct. 29-Nov. 30. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.             The program includes Serve Safe® certification, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.             The program is offered in partnership with Families First of North Mississippi.             Registration is underway for each class. Science Club sets blood drive for Sept. 11

           The Itawamba Community College Science Club will sponsor a community blood drive from noon-3 p.m., Sept. 11, in the parking lot of the Student Activities Center at the Fulton Campus.             Visit www.bloodhero.com to sign up. Four PTK members selected as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars

            Four Itawamba Community College students are among 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.             They include Kelsey Wade of Caledonia; Jacie Rinehart of Saltillo; Makaela Dickerson of Smithville; and Julie Lyles of Tupelo.             At ICC, Wade is a member of the Baptist Student Union. She attends New Salem Baptist Church. After ICC, Wade plans to transfer to Mississippi State University where she will pursue the master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and become a registered dietician.             Rinehart is studying occupational therapy at ICC, where she serves as Phi Theta Kappa officer of projects. She is also a member of the choir and Science Club. Rinehart plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to continue work toward her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and subsequently earn her doctorate of occupational therapy degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.             Dickerson’s activities at ICC include Indian Delegation, PTK Upsilon Sigma chapter president and Communication Chiefs. ICC science faculty participate in UAB GATE program

Three members of Itawamba Community College’s Natural Science Division faculty participated in the University of Alabama at Birmingham GATE program recently.             They included Beth Campbell of Fulton, Michelle Milner of Saltillo and Lindsey Patterson of Amory.             Campbell earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and has completed additional coursework. She has served as biology instructor at ICC since 1999, and her previous employment has included graduate assistant and research assistant staff at MSU, substitute teacher and private biology tutor. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and Faculty Teachers Association and holds certifications from the Globe Program and Project Learning Tree. She has an extensive list of awards including ICC’s Meritorious Achievement, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Lamplighter Award. She is a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she teaches the College and Career Sunday School class, Kid’s Time and Vacation Bible School and serves as a nursery volunteer. Homecoming 2018 schedule

                          Itawamba Community College will celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 18 at the Fulton Campus beginning at 4 p.m.             For the first time in ICC’s history, Homecoming will be on Thursday.             The schedule includes Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame award ceremony, 4 p.m. tentatively set for the Davis Event Center lobby and Red, Hot & Blue Cookout, 5-6 p.m., Davis Event Center concourse.             The 2018 honorees are Tommy Kline of Fulton, Alumnus of the Year; and Mike Nanney, Sr. of Fulton and Okolona native Ron Hill of Ponte Vedra, Fla, Athletic Hall of Fame. They will be honored during pregame ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. at Eaton Field. New Entrepreneurship Certification program

            Registration is underway for an Entrepreneurship Certification program, which will begin Sept. 4 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Classes will meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 4-Nov. 1.             Candidates for ESB certification will be expected to have a conceptual knowledge of entrepreneurial and small business principles. Preparing for the ACT set for Belden

            The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled two options for Preparing for the ACT.             The weekly option will begin Aug. 20 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) and will meet Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. through Oct. 22. The $100 fee includes the book. Preparing for the ACT will also be offered six Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. English and reading will be covered Aug. 18, Oct. 20 and Nov. 10, and math and science, Aug. 25, Oct. 6 and Dec. 1. Cost is $50 for each session.             ICC’s ACT prep class instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods including review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for studying smart that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests will be administered to measure performance, and extensive handouts will be provided for skill practice.                Preregistration is required.
