ICC sets Unity programs, Feb. 19 Itawamba Community College’s Student Government Associations and Student Activities have scheduled Celebration of Unity programs at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses, Feb. 19. The Tupelo Campus program will be noon in the student presentation room of the Student Support Center, and the Fulton Campus event will be at 7 p.m. in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium. Robert Solomon of Tupelo, ICC’s director of admissions/registrar, will be the speaker for the Tupelo Campus program. He is a native of Savannah, Ga. and a product of the Chatham County School System. After graduating from Savannah High School, he attended Tuskegee University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and later, the master’s degree from Troy State University in human resource management. Currently he is pursuing the doctoral degree in business administration with a concentration in leadership from Walden University. Pack the House set for Jan. 24 Itawamba Community College alumni members and their families will receive free admission upon presentation of their ID to the sixth annual Pack the House, which will be Jan. 24 at the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus. ICC will play East Mississippi Community College with the women’s basketball game beginning at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s at 7:30 p.m. Additionally, ICC’s spring sports teams, including softball, baseball, tennis and golf, will participate in Meet the Tribe events. Teams will be available for a Meet and Greet and signing autographs during the games. 2019 spring semester registration continues Open registration at Itawamba Community College for the 2019 spring semester is continuing. Students may register through Jan. 15 for traditional full-term classes and the January eight-week traditional term; Jan. 23 for the January eight-week eLearning term; and Jan. 25 for full-term eLearning classes, but a late registration fee of $15 will be assessed. However, class selection could possibly be limited. Traditional day classes began Jan. 9, and eLearning classes will begin Jan. 22. ICC offers an Adult Learner Incentive Scholarship, which is designed to provide an incentive for new or returning students, age 23 or older, not enrolled in college for the previous two years to pursue a degree at ICC. 2019-20 Cheerleader Tryouts Rescheduled Itawamba Community College has rescheduled its 2019-20 cheerleader and mascot tryouts for 4 p.m., Mar. 22, on the Fulton Campus in the Fitness Center gym. Tryouts will include the all-female cheer squad, coed cheer squad and the mascot, Chief Winnemaw. Clinics are scheduled for 4-6 p.m., Mar. 19 and 20 in the Fitness Center gym on the Fulton Campus. The cost is $30, and checks and money orders should be made payable to Itawamba Community College. All participants are required to attend both sessions, according to cheer sponsor Evie Storey. For tryouts, coed cheer participants will be required to perform a cheer, the ICC Fight Song, five partner stunts and standing and running tumbling. The cheer and ICC Fight Song will be taught to participants at the clinics. Those who try out for mascot, Chief Winnemaw, will be required to perform a 1-2 minute skit using music and props. Melanie Francis selected ICC's William Winter Scholar Fulton native Melanie McCrimon Francis of Saltillo, lead online English instructor, has been selected as Itawamba Community College’s William Winter Scholar for 2019. She will be among statewide recipients honored during opening and closing ceremonies at the 30th Annual Natchez Literary and Cinema Celebration, Feb. 21-23. Francis, who is in her eleventh year at ICC, was first employed in 2007 in workforce development as the instructional technology specialist and in 2008, she moved to eLearning as the lead online instructor to design and instruct the business and office technology, computer and information systems online courses. In 2014, Francis assumed her current position. She credits her strong start at ICC as a “catalyst for beginning a very rewarding education and career.” Francis earned the associate’s degree from ICC in 1998 and the bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Mississippi University for Women in 2000.
