CNA class set for ICC-Belden Registration is underway through Sept. 30 for a nursing assistant class at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 15-Dec. 12, but clinicals and CPR class are full-day sessions. The course prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession. ICC sets Military Appreciation Sept. 13 Past and current members of the armed forces will be honored during Itawamba Community College’s Military Appreciation Night, Sept. 13, at Lambert Stadium/Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus during ICC’s football game with East Mississippi Community College, which begins at 6:30 p.m. and pre-game at 6 p.m. Special activities will include a salute during halftime featuring ICC’s All-American Band. Admission is free to all past and current armed forces members and their families. In addition, ICC is partnering with the American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo to collect items for care packages for the more than 4,000 Mississippi National Guard soldiers who are currently deployed in Kuwait. Upcoming Food Service Pathway classes Itawamba Community College has scheduled dates for its four-week Food Service Pathway program at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.). Beginning and ending dates for the classes include Sept. 4-28, Oct. 1-26 and Oct. 29-Nov. 30. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The program includes Serve Safe® certification, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations. Four PTK members selected as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars Four Itawamba Community College students are among 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. They include Kelsey Wade of Caledonia; Jacie Rinehart of Saltillo; Makaela Dickerson of Smithville; and Julie Lyles of Tupelo. At ICC, Wade is a member of the Baptist Student Union. She attends New Salem Baptist Church. After ICC, Wade plans to transfer to Mississippi State University where she will pursue the master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and become a registered dietician. Rinehart is studying occupational therapy at ICC, where she serves as Phi Theta Kappa officer of projects. She is also a member of the choir and Science Club. Rinehart plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to continue work toward her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and subsequently earn her doctorate of occupational therapy degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. ICC science faculty participate in UAB GATE program Three members of Itawamba Community College’s Natural Science Division faculty participated in the University of Alabama at Birmingham GATE program recently. They included Beth Campbell of Fulton, Michelle Milner of Saltillo and Lindsey Patterson of Amory. Campbell earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and has completed additional coursework. She has served as biology instructor at ICC since 1999, and her previous employment has included graduate assistant and research assistant staff at MSU, substitute teacher and private biology tutor. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and Faculty Teachers Association and holds certifications from the Globe Program and Project Learning Tree. She has an extensive list of awards including ICC’s Meritorious Achievement, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Lamplighter Award. She is a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she teaches the College and Career Sunday School class, Kid’s Time and Vacation Bible School and serves as a nursery volunteer. Homecoming 2018 schedule Itawamba Community College will celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 18 at the Fulton Campus beginning at 4 p.m. For the first time in ICC’s history, Homecoming will be on Thursday. The schedule includes Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame award ceremony, 4 p.m. tentatively set for the Davis Event Center lobby and Red, Hot & Blue Cookout, 5-6 p.m., Davis Event Center concourse.
