Preparing for the ACT set for Belden The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled two options for Preparing for the ACT. The weekly option will begin Aug. 20 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) and will meet Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. through Oct. 22. The $100 fee includes the book. Preparing for the ACT will also be offered six Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. English and reading will be covered Aug. 18, Oct. 20 and Nov. 10, and math and science, Aug. 25, Oct. 6 and Dec. 1. Cost is $50 for each session. ICC’s ACT prep class instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods including review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for studying smart that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests will be administered to measure performance, and extensive handouts will be provided for skill practice. Preregistration is required. 'Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World' The works of Linda Lindale of Amory, aka “The Funky Lady,” will be on display through Sept. 21 at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus. The show is titled “Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World.” Lindale is a self-taught textile and fabric artist who puts her talents and vision to use creating unique clothing designs and costumes. “As a fabric artist, the ladies are my canvas, and the yarn is my paint,” Lindale said. “My ‘paints are homespun yarn, specialty yarns, ribbon yarns, fun yarns and eyelash yarns. My ‘paintbrushes’ are my crochet hooks. “My work is very unique,” Lindale continued. “In fact, it has been described as ‘offbeat, unusual and trendsetting.’ It’s not exactly Grandma’s knitted scarf; hence the nickname, ‘The Funky Lady.’ My free-form creations include scarves, collars, hats, shawls, vests, kimonos and shrugs. Mississippi Minute screening set for Sept. 7 The Itawamba Community College Film Club will screen “Mississippi Minute” at 6 p.m., Sept. 7, in the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center auditorium at the Fulton Campus. Members of the Film Club worked with New Jersey producer PJ Leonard on the project, which was primarily filmed in Tupelo in late December. “Mississippi Minute” premiered during the Tupelo Film Festival in April. Leonard will be at the screening to discuss upcoming projects. The event will be a fundraiser for the organization’s next film production. Regular admission is $10, and student admission, $5. Forklift train the trainer class Registration is underway at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center for a forklift train the trainer course. The class includes an overview of the program; types, features and physics; inspecting the vehicle; operating the truck; load handling; LPG for lift trucks; safety concerns; specific workplace training and battery and charging. Little, Hoing, Sheffield earn MHIMA awards, honors Itawamba Community College’s Health Information Technology instructor Lori Little of Fulton and students Misty Sheffield of Fulton and Claudia Michaela Hoing of Thaxton have received awards and honors from the Mississippi Health Information Management Association. Little was the recipient of both the 2018 Educator and Mentor awards, and Sheffield and Hoing were presented MSHIMA scholarships for outstanding academic performance. Little earned the associate’s degree from ICC, bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and master’s degree from Union University. Her professional honors and activities include HOSA Adviser of the Year, Leadership Itawamba, AHIMA first year delegate, MSHIMA member liaison, Northeast Council president and a member of numerous college committees. Little is a member of Bethel Baptist Church and also an instructor for adult basic education. She and her husband, David, have two children, Cassidy and Cooper.
