FAFSA Fridays begin Oct. 5

            Itawamba Community College’s Financial Aid offices have scheduled FAFSA Fridays beginning Oct. 5 to assist prospective students with the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.             ICC staff members will be available to assist with completion of the online form as well as to answer any questions at both the Fulton and Tupelo campus offices, which are located in the Student Services buildings. Students are encouraged to visit the Tupelo Campus office, if possible because of the availability of more computers. In addition to ICC staff, Phi Theta Kappa and Get2College Corps members Jacob Owens (Fulton Campus) and Blake Price (Tupelo Campus) will assist with FAFSA Fridays.             Thirty-minute appointments can be scheduled from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., weekdays, using SignUp.com at http://signup.com/go/nadZGME for the Fulton Campus and http://signup.com/go/WgcKppi for the Tupelo Campus.             The FAFSA is the form used by the U.S. Department of Education to determine eligibility for federal, state and college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, educational loans and work-study programs, according to Terry Bland, director of Financial Aid at ICC.             For more information, call (662) 862-8261 ...

Eight-week terms to begin in October

            Registration for eight week traditional and eLearning sessions is continuing at both the Fulton and Tupelo campuses of Itawamba Community College.             The deadline to register is Oct. 12 for the traditional term and Oct. 16 for the eLearning (online) session.             ICC offers academic, career and technical, workforce and eLearning classes. State of the District Address

            Itawamba Community College will host a State of the District address featuring U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Cindy Hyde-Smith and U.S. Representative Trent Kelly, at 1:30 p.m., Oct. 29, at the Davis Event Center on the Fulton Campus.             The public is invited to the question-and-answer format event, which is sponsored by ICC’s Political Science Club.  Members of the community are encouraged to submit questions to constitutionday@iccms.edu using State of the District in the subject line. National Day on Writing set for Oct. 23

           High school students in Itawamba Community College’s five-county district are invited to submit writing, music and artwork, which will be judged for the National Day on Writing, Oct. 23.             Students in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee. Monroe and Pontotoc counties are invited to submit essays, poetry, short stories and artwork (drawing and painting) by the 4:30 p.m., Oct. 11 deadline. Awards, including first, second and third places, and honorable mention will be presented during a reception at 6:30 p.m. that day in the ICC-Fulton Learning Resource Center. The work will be displayed in ICC’s gallery in the W.O. Community Tailgate contest set for Sept. 27

Area residents are invited to participate in a tailgate contest on the lawn of the Davis Event Center at the Fulton Campus of Itawamba Community College, beginning at 4:30 p.m., Sept. 27.             Entries, which must have three tailgate leaders, will be judged on creativity, pride, food and atmosphere. Winners of best atmosphere, best food, most spirit and best overall will be announced at 6 p.m. The award for best overall will be presented at Eaton Field during ICC’s football game with Northeast Mississippi Community College.             Each tailgate will include one 10 x 10 space for a personal tent and items. ICC schedules basic residential wiring class

            Registration is underway at Itawamba Community College for a short-term career training class in the basics of residential wiring.             The class will meet from 6-9 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 27-Dec. 6, at ICC’s Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Road).             Highlights of the hands-on class include how to use a meter properly; change and update receptacles; distinguish between single pole, three-way and four-way switches; replace old switches; locate loose or bad connections; and use troubleshooting techniques.             Cost of the class is $369, which includes tools and supplies.             For more information or to register, contact Becky Kelly, continuing education specialist, at rakelly@iccms.edu or (662) 407-1500.

CNA class set for ICC-Belden

            Registration is underway through Sept. 30 for a nursing assistant class at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Oct. 15-Dec. 12, but clinicals and CPR class are full-day sessions.             The course prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant provides an excellent foundation for those who want to advance in the nursing profession.             Cost of the course is $425, which includes instruction, books, first and second Hepatitis immunizations, CPR certification, insurance and physical.             To register or for more information, call (662) 407-1500 or email rakelly@iccms.edu.

Four-week eLearning session

ICC offers Quality Management Program Level I

            Registration is underway for Level 1: Quality Improvement Associate of the Quality Management program at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.              The two-week program will meet from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Oct. 1-12.             The course includes the body of knowledge required by the American Society for Quality for Quality Improvement Associate. ICC sets Military Appreciation Sept. 13

            Past and current members of the armed forces will be honored during Itawamba Community College’s Military Appreciation Night, Sept. 13, at Lambert Stadium/Eaton Field at the Fulton Campus during ICC’s football game with East Mississippi Community College, which begins at 6:30 p.m. and pre-game at 6 p.m.             Special activities will include a salute during halftime featuring ICC’s All-American Band. Admission is free to all past and current armed forces members and their families.             In addition, ICC is partnering with the American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo to collect items for care packages for the more than 4,000 Mississippi National Guard soldiers who are currently deployed in Kuwait. Those who attend are encouraged to bring items including toiletries, food and personal items.
