Upcoming Food Service Pathway classes

Itawamba Community College has scheduled dates for its four-week Food Service Pathway program at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.).             Beginning and ending dates for the classes include Sept. 4-28, Oct. 1-26 and Oct. 29-Nov. 30. Classes will meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.             The program includes Serve Safe® certification, certificate of completion, proper food handling standards, kitchen safety practices, culinary techniques, interview skills and résumé building, money handling and front of the house and back of the house operations.             The program is offered in partnership with Families First of North Mississippi.             Registration is underway for each class. Science Club sets blood drive for Sept. 11

           The Itawamba Community College Science Club will sponsor a community blood drive from noon-3 p.m., Sept. 11, in the parking lot of the Student Activities Center at the Fulton Campus.             Visit www.bloodhero.com to sign up. Four PTK members selected as Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars

            Four Itawamba Community College students are among 207 Phi Theta Kappa members named 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholars and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.             They include Kelsey Wade of Caledonia; Jacie Rinehart of Saltillo; Makaela Dickerson of Smithville; and Julie Lyles of Tupelo.             At ICC, Wade is a member of the Baptist Student Union. She attends New Salem Baptist Church. After ICC, Wade plans to transfer to Mississippi State University where she will pursue the master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and become a registered dietician.             Rinehart is studying occupational therapy at ICC, where she serves as Phi Theta Kappa officer of projects. She is also a member of the choir and Science Club. Rinehart plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to continue work toward her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and subsequently earn her doctorate of occupational therapy degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.             Dickerson’s activities at ICC include Indian Delegation, PTK Upsilon Sigma chapter president and Communication Chiefs. ICC science faculty participate in UAB GATE program

Three members of Itawamba Community College’s Natural Science Division faculty participated in the University of Alabama at Birmingham GATE program recently.             They included Beth Campbell of Fulton, Michelle Milner of Saltillo and Lindsey Patterson of Amory.             Campbell earned both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and has completed additional coursework. She has served as biology instructor at ICC since 1999, and her previous employment has included graduate assistant and research assistant staff at MSU, substitute teacher and private biology tutor. She is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and Faculty Teachers Association and holds certifications from the Globe Program and Project Learning Tree. She has an extensive list of awards including ICC’s Meritorious Achievement, National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Lamplighter Award. She is a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she teaches the College and Career Sunday School class, Kid’s Time and Vacation Bible School and serves as a nursery volunteer. Homecoming 2018 schedule

                          Itawamba Community College will celebrate Homecoming on Oct. 18 at the Fulton Campus beginning at 4 p.m.             For the first time in ICC’s history, Homecoming will be on Thursday.             The schedule includes Alumnus of the Year and Athletic Hall of Fame award ceremony, 4 p.m. tentatively set for the Davis Event Center lobby and Red, Hot & Blue Cookout, 5-6 p.m., Davis Event Center concourse.             The 2018 honorees are Tommy Kline of Fulton, Alumnus of the Year; and Mike Nanney, Sr. of Fulton and Okolona native Ron Hill of Ponte Vedra, Fla, Athletic Hall of Fame. They will be honored during pregame ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. at Eaton Field. New Entrepreneurship Certification program

            Registration is underway for an Entrepreneurship Certification program, which will begin Sept. 4 at the Itawamba Community College Belden Center.             Classes will meet from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from Sept. 4-Nov. 1.             Candidates for ESB certification will be expected to have a conceptual knowledge of entrepreneurial and small business principles. Preparing for the ACT set for Belden

            The Continuing Education Department of Itawamba Community College has scheduled two options for Preparing for the ACT.             The weekly option will begin Aug. 20 at the Belden Center (3200 Adams Farm Rd.) and will meet Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. through Oct. 22. The $100 fee includes the book. Preparing for the ACT will also be offered six Saturdays from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. English and reading will be covered Aug. 18, Oct. 20 and Nov. 10, and math and science, Aug. 25, Oct. 6 and Dec. 1. Cost is $50 for each session.             ICC’s ACT prep class instructors use intensive classroom review procedures in English, reading, science reasoning and math that focus on strategies for improving scores by three methods including review of all concepts tested, tips for overcoming test anxiety and guides for studying smart that will help improve test-day performance. Instructors effectively communicate techniques to help students perform with confidence. Pre-test and post-test full-length ACT practice tests will be administered to measure performance, and extensive handouts will be provided for skill practice.                Preregistration is required. 'Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World'

            The works of Linda Lindale of Amory, aka “The Funky Lady,” will be on display through Sept. 21 at the W.O. Benjamin Fine Arts Center Gallery at the Itawamba Community College Fulton Campus.             The show is titled “Fun, Frivolous, Fantasy World.”             Lindale is a self-taught textile and fabric artist who puts her talents and vision to use creating unique clothing designs and costumes. “As a fabric artist, the ladies are my canvas, and the yarn is my paint,” Lindale said. “My ‘paints are homespun yarn, specialty yarns, ribbon yarns, fun yarns and eyelash yarns. My ‘paintbrushes’ are my crochet hooks.             “My work is very unique,” Lindale continued. “In fact, it has been described as ‘offbeat, unusual and trendsetting.’ It’s not exactly Grandma’s knitted scarf; hence the nickname, ‘The Funky Lady.’ My free-form creations include scarves, collars, hats, shawls, vests, kimonos and shrugs. I look for odd and unusual things, using different yarns, colors and textures. Alumni Association membership drive continues

            Itawamba Community College’s Alumni Association is attempting to reconnect with more than 16,000 graduates or those who have attended as part of its annual membership drive which is underway.             The association provides an opportunity for alumni to stay connected with ICC, to receive updates and information as well as to give back to the institution that provides so many with an exceptional educational background.             Membership in ICC’s Alumni Association is open to former students, current and former faculty and staff members and friends of the College.             Membership forms are available at www.iccms.edu or by emailing alumni@iccms.edu. Fall 2018 registration continues

            Registration for the 2018 fall semester is continuing at Itawamba Community College.             Students can register for traditional classes and the August eight-week traditional accelerated term through Aug. 17; the August eight-week eLearning accelerated term through Aug. 21; and full-term eLearning classes through Aug. 24.             Academic, career and technical, eLearning (online) and workforce opportunities are available in an extensive schedule, which includes both day and evening classes at Fulton, Tupelo and Belden.
